Zastávka

Zastávka combines cycling, industrial heritage and a unique railway history in a compact area. The 35-kilometre Kolem Bobravy a Bučína cycling loop starts and ends here and follows routes 5171 and 5172. At the same time, the town recalls its past in hard-coal mining—with a permanent exhibition, historic mining facilities and the annual Hornické slavnosti. This creates a destination where active excursions, peaceful walks and concrete insights into the region’s history can be combined.

Cycling and peaceful paths in Zastávka

Those wishing to explore Zastávka by bicycle will find a loop route in Kolem Bobravy a Bučína: the cycling loop is 35 km long, uses routes 5171 and 5172, and starts and ends in Zastávka. This makes the town a defined starting and finishing point for a cycling tour, without requiring you to divide your daily itinerary between different starting locations.

For a slower-paced section, the Lesopark is a good option. This peaceful area is intended for walking or relaxing and has benches. Another walking route follows a forest path alongside the narrow-gauge railway to the former grounds of the Důl Ferdinand mine. The historic status of this destination remains important: it is the former mining site, not a currently operating facility.

Mining history between exhibition and festival

The Regionální informační centrum Zastávka is located directly next to the railway station building. Its rooms house a permanent exhibition documenting the development of hard-coal mining in Zastávka, as well as the history of local industrial companies, schools, sports clubs and theatre ensembles. Admission to this exhibition on mining history is free. This allows the town’s industrial background to be directly connected with other aspects of its local development.

The Hornické slavnosti also draw on this past. They take place in Zastávka every year on 9 September on the occasion of Miners’ Day and commemorate the town’s mining past. Individual historic facilities illustrate the scale of the mining industry in the past: the Důl Julius mine had its own coal-washing plant, briquette factory, steam winding engine and cableway. The industrial complex of the Důl Herring mine included coke ovens, a brickworks and the production of decorative moulded bricks.

Another historical detail can be found at today’s Chapel of sv. Jana Křtitele. After 1850, the building was a guild room where miners gathered before descending into the Julius mine. In 1911, it was converted into a chapel and consecrated. The mining history is therefore visible not only in technical facilities, but also in buildings connected with the everyday lives of miners.

Narrow-gauge railway and excursions to Zbýšov

Zastávka has a second railway station for the narrow-gauge railway operated by the Muzeum průmyslových železnic. Small carriages run from there to Zbýšov. In addition, the Muzeum průmyslových železnic offers train rides between Zbýšov-Důl Jindřich and Zastávka u Brna and back. For your travel planning, this provides another way to connect the locations: the railway itself becomes part of the excursion, rather than merely a backdrop to the industrial history.

A stay with different daily rhythms

Zastávka is therefore suitable for combining a defined cycling tour, an exploration of technological history and quieter paths. While the exhibition, the chapel’s history and the mining facilities provide the cultural focus, the Lesopark and forest path offer a noticeably quieter contrast. The Regionální informační centrum Zastávka also has the Minihernička Permoníček: children can use games and toys there while staying at the café.
