Žabčice

Žabčice combines a regional cycling route with landscape and cultural traces that characterize the town between the Svratka and Šatava rivers. The municipality is located in the Dyjsko-Svratecká Lowland. If you would like to combine cycling, nature observation, and historical discoveries during your stay, Žabčice offers several clearly distinct points of interest for this purpose.

Cycling on the Jantarová stezka

The regional cycling route No. 5, the Jantarová stezka, runs through Žabčice. Its route through the town extends for 2.5 km. A 1.5 km section runs away from roads on a dedicated cycle path. The dedicated cycle path is part of this route and is not added to the 2.5 km. This distinction is important when planning tours: the length of the route through Žabčice and the separate section on the dedicated cycle path do not refer to the same measure. When choosing accommodation, you can therefore specifically consider whether you want to focus your stay primarily on this cycling connection or on the town's historical themes.

Landscape between the Svratka and Šatava rivers

The landscape includes the Šatava, which was revitalized between 1999 and 2000. Ponds were created in the Klučiny locality. VKP Klučiny is one of the two registered significant landscape elements in Žabčice. The area includes stands of trees covering 3.87 ha in the area of the former sports ground and Jezírko. The figure of 3.87 ha refers to the stands of trees and not to the entire locality.

Fortification and historical evidence

The Kulatý kopec fortification was built around the middle of the 13th century and fell into ruin around 1425. It was designed as a motte in the form of a truncated cone. Its recognizable features include a ditch and a partially preserved outer rampart. This makes the site suitable for tracing history, where not only a name but also the form of the medieval structure plays a role.

Further evidence reaches back to the vanished medieval settlement of Koválov, where a church and a medieval cemetery have been documented. In the center of Žabčice stands the Chapel of St. Lawrence, built in 1883. Boží muka is a significant cultural monument in Žabčice. The farmstead also contains the large Žabčice granary, built in 1713 and still serving various purposes today. This allows families with different interests to combine cycling stages, landscape themes, and historical discoveries in a single stay, without all travelers having to choose the same focus.

Train station and choice of accommodation location

Žabčice railway station is integrated into the IDS JMK integrated transport system. It is located on line 251 on the Tišnov–Brno–Hustopeče u Brna and Hrušovany u Brna–Židlochovice connections. The two connections have different endpoints: one runs from Tišnov via Brno to Hustopeče u Brna, while the other runs from Hrušovany u Brna to Židlochovice.
