Vanovice – Churches, History and Culture

Vanovice invites you to discover history not only in a single building, but in various forms: in two churches from different periods, in a historic hall with an original theatre curtain and at cultural events. The wider regional surroundings also complement a visit to the town with mountains, rock formations and smaller religious buildings. This allows you to plan your stay around local history, culture and regional discoveries.

Two Churches and a Park in the Townscape

The Evangelical Church of Vanovice was built in the Neo-Romanesque style with a semicircular apse and was ceremonially opened on 11 August 1844. Its present appearance is the result of a later addition: between 1863 and 1865, the façade was extended with two towers. A special technical and cultural feature is its still-functioning spring bell mechanism.

The core of the Catholic Church of St Wenceslas dates back to the 15th century. A churchyard once surrounded the church; today, it is a park. Vanovice therefore has two religious buildings with clearly different historical reference points facing one another: the Evangelical Church tells of its origins in the 19th century, while St Wenceslas preserves a medieval core. This gives your walk a concentrated insight into different periods of the town's history.

Historic Hall and Vibrant Culture

The historic Občanská záložna building is located in the centre of Vanovice. It was built in 1896 as a civic savings bank. Its historic hall has an original theatre curtain, which was professionally restored in 2021. The hall is used for smaller cultural events, including concerts. The Vanovické hudebně výtvarné slavnosti take place in the Evangelical Church and complement the architectural attractions with a cultural venue.

This combination also offers different options for planning your day: you can get to know the town through its churches and architectural history, or include cultural events in your itinerary. If you are travelling with children, the transition between church, park and historic hall creates different themes for shared discoveries, without reducing Vanovice to a single attraction.

Regional Destinations and Stories

The wider regional surroundings of Vanovice include the mountains of Skalky, Skatulec, Skály and Husák. The monument Pomník obětem 1. a 2. světové války is also located in this wider regional area. The surroundings of Vanovice also contain the churches Kaple Panny Marie, Kaple Božského srdce and Kaple Panny Marie Lurdské. The different place names help you distinguish between the immediate townscape and destinations in the surrounding area when planning further excursions.

A historical connection with cycling is also documented: during the 12th Cyklovýlet Okolo Malé Hané on 25 August 2018, the route passed through Vanovice. The rock formations there are associated with local legends about a petrified wedding. This adds regional tales to the architectural and cultural history, giving the experience of the landscape its own traditional perspective.

Considering Vanovice as a Place to Stay

You can decide which accommodation suits your trip based on your preferred focus: the churches and historic buildings in the town, cultural events or destinations in the wider regional surroundings. Vanovice is therefore suitable as a search destination for travellers who want to choose their stay not only based on an overnight stay, but on a combination of history, culture and regional discoveries.
