Šebetov – Forest Landscape, Castle History and Hiking Trails

Šebetov combines a forest-rich landscape with distinctive reminders of its history and several signposted paths into the surrounding area. The village lies at the southern foot of the wooded Rychvald hill, which reaches 607 m above sea level. Orientation in Šebetov therefore begins not with a single attraction, but with a changing mix of village, hills, forest and paths covering different distances.

The Šebetov château park is also part of the landscape. It extends deep into the Obora forest massif and eventually merges into it. Malá Haná provides another regional context: this area is considered the most fertile part of the Blansko District. For choosing your own style of excursion, this creates a clear contrast between the historic points in the village and the longer routes through the landscape.

Castle History and Chapel

Šebetov château was originally a residence of Hradisko Monastery. The château is not accessible to tourists because it houses a social care facility for women with intellectual disabilities. The castle history therefore forms part of the historical context of the village, while a visit itself cannot be planned as a château tour.

The Chapel of Saint Anne is an independent cultural landmark. It stands on a slight elevation above Šebetov, on the site of a former pleasure château. It was built in 1711 at the instigation of Hradisko Abbot Bernard Vanka. In 1842, the former owner of the estate, Count Mořic Strachwic, had the chapel rebuilt in the Gothic style. The building thus reveals several historical phases of development, without confusing the site's former use with its present function.

The village square also contains a sculpture group of Saint John of Nepomuk. The statue of Our Lady of Sorrows is now located on plot no. 90 and dates from the mid-19th century. Together with the chapel, these details offer a place-specific discovery away from a purely landscape-focused tour.

Hiking Trails with Different Stages

Several marked trails make Šebetov a starting point for outings of varying lengths. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads to Pohora (3.5 km), Úsobrno (7 km) and Dzbel (15.5 km). Those wishing to compare the distances to the possible destinations can find Na pilce 2.5 km, Melkov 4.5 km and Boskovice 13 km away along the blue-grey-marked route.

Another blue-marked hiking trail leads to the destination marked “ČD” (1 km), to Cetkovice (13 km) and to Kunštát (23 km). These distances allow for various forms of day planning: short destinations stand alongside longer routes, and the trails lead out of Šebetov in several directions. This means the suitable route can be selected primarily according to the desired stage length and destination, rather than as a single uniform circular hike.

Swimming Option and Bus Access

At the Kapouňata swimming area in Šebetov, visitors can swim in a filtered and chemically treated fire-fighting water reservoir. Swimming is at your own risk and there is no lifeguard. This unusual form of swimming facility differs significantly from a supervised swimming pool and should be taken into account when planning your day.

For travel within the region, IDS-JMK bus route 277 serves Šebetov on the Letovice–Vísky–Vanovice–Šebetov–Kořenec or Horní Štěpánov route and back. In addition to its hiking trails, the village therefore also offers a documented bus connection whose route links several destinations in the surrounding area.
