Between the Svitava, Kešůvka and Moravian Karst

Spešov lies in a valley on the right bank of the Svitava and along a stream. At the same time, the village is situated at the foot of Kešůvka, a foothill of the Hořické Hills. Blansko is 4 km away, while Spešov lies on the border of the Moravian Karst. This precise location connects the valley with a larger karst area without the village losing its own character.

A notable geological feature is located in the Vápno area: tertiary shelly limestone with numerous fossils can be found there. For visitors who want to experience the landscape not only as a backdrop but also through its geological formations, this is a remarkable detail. Tunnels from the former iron-ore mining operations are also still visible on Spešov’s western slopes. In this way, the surroundings also become a setting for the local history of raw materials and industry.

Lookout Tower, Fruit Trees and Commemorative Heritage

The Spešov lookout tower combines traditions of carpentry and metalworking with municipal symbols and historical elements. It invites visitors to make a short stop and enjoy views of a varied and richly structured landscape. It is therefore not merely a viewpoint, but also a structure in which local and artisanal connections can be discerned.

The educational trail “In the Footsteps of Old Fruit Trees” introduces visitors to some of the most common local fruit-tree species. The history of the village also includes the chapel in Spešov, which was built in 1856 to commemorate the averting of a cholera epidemic.

Summer Activities for Different Day Plans

Local facilities in Spešov include a swimming pool, a volleyball court, a beach-volleyball court and a children’s corner. Spešov outdoor pool is open in June from Monday to Friday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; in July and August, it is open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The local activities allow for different daily rhythms: You can combine a visit to the lookout tower with views of the landscape, learn about the fruit-tree species along the educational trail, or include the outdoor pool and sports facilities in your summer plans. The children’s corner adds a dedicated area for younger visitors, without limiting the village to a single holiday theme.

Karst Landscape with Exceptional Caves

The Moravian Karst is one of the most important karst areas in Central Europe. More than 1,100 caves are known throughout the area, five of which are open to the public. Among the special experiences are the Punkva Caves: visitors can take a boat trip on the underground Punkva River, combined with a tour of the bottom of the Macocha Gorge. Spešov’s location on the border of this karst area makes the village interesting for travellers who want to combine their stay with nature and landscape experiences in a broader regional context.
