Habrůvka – Forest, Karst and Historical Traces

Habrůvka combines a protected forest landscape with unusual traces of natural and cultural history. Habrůvecká bučina, paths through the area and the route to Rudice offer different ways to explore a place where karst, forest and historical evidence lie close together.

Habrůvecká bučina: Forest and Karst

Habrůvecká bučina is a national nature reserve in the cadastral area of Habrůvka. It protects a species-rich complex of natural beech and beech-oak forests. The protected area also includes a geode site in the Rudice Beds, as well as a group of surface and underground karst formations. The landscape therefore showcases not only a specific forest type, but also geological features that help shape the character of Habrůvecká bučina.

A path along the edge of Habrůvecká bučina offers views into the protected area. The remarkable memorial tree Modřín troják u Habrůvky also stands directly beside the path near Habrůvecká bučina. During your stay, you should remain on the paths in Habrůvecká bučina to respect the protection of the area. This combination of an edge path, woodland and protected geological features can thus be enjoyed with clear guidance for your visit.

Historical Traces in the Forest and at Býčí skála

Habrůvecká bučina also preserves evidence of earlier use. Slag remains from the 11th century can be found there. The area also contains the remains of a lime kiln that lime burners from the nearby municipality of Habrůvka operated until 1924. A monument to Prof. Alois Zlatník stands at the northern boundary of Habrůvecká bučina.

At Býčí skála, the historical finds date back to a much earlier period. A Hallstatt-period grave from the Early Iron Age containing more than 40 skeletons was discovered there. A small bronze bull figurine was also found near Býčí skála. If you are interested in archaeology and the history of the region, this is where specific artefacts meet an exceptional archaeological context. A time-limited form of access has also been documented for Býčí skála: the site could be visited on weekends in June as part of open days.

Getting There by Bus and Forest Road

When using public transport, the Josefovské údolí programme begins at the Habrůvka, Josefov bus stop. The programme ends at the same stop at the crossroads. Bus route 157 also runs from Adamov to Vyškov via Habrůvka.

The forest road K Hlinkovým dolům provides a connection between the locations; it links Habrůvka and Rudice. Road cyclists are recommended to use the northern section of this forest road as far as the junction with the Padouch forest road. This allows you to tailor your choice of excursion more closely to your preferred mode of transport without confusing the different routes and their respective directions.
