Crhov – Water Mill, Chapel and Cycling Route

Crhov combines distinctive traces of local history with a marked cycling route through the surrounding area. The village lies near the eastern edge of the Svratecká hornatina Nature Park. The marked cycling route No. 5089 provides an important guide for active exploration: it runs from Olešnice via Crhov to Louka Ruins and is 7 km long. This makes it possible to explore the village both through its historical features and via a specific connection for cyclists.

Water Mill and Mill Wheel on the Crhovský potok

The former water mill of Crhov is located on the southwestern edge of the village, near the Crhovský potok. The building is a two-storey wooden structure. A remnant of the millrace with a mill wheel has also been preserved on its southwestern side.

Chapel with Unusually Small Dimensions

The chapel in Crhov was built in 1801. Its square floor plan measures 2.8 × 2.8 metres, giving the building an unusually precise, compact form. In 2002, the chapel was consecrated to Saints Cyril and Methodius. A period of 201 years lies between the construction of the chapel and its consecration. A medieval stone bearing an engraved double cross was moved in 2002 from the road to Olešnice to the chapel's foundations. Several layers of history thus meet at this site: the early 19th-century building, its later consecration and a medieval stone element.

Cultural Monument and Fortification History

Other historical points of reference include the cross in Crhov, erected in 1848. It was installed to commemorate the abolition of corvée labour and is now a cultural monument. The Crhov fortification site is also located in the southwestern part of the village. A fortification in Crhov is mentioned in 1487. The year 1487 predates the 1848 cross and the 1801 chapel. A period of 314 years passed between the mention of the fortification in 1487 and the construction of the chapel in 1801; the cross was added 47 years later, in 1848. For a stay focused on history, Crhov therefore offers various points of interest: a former agricultural building, a small chapel, a monument and a documented history of fortifications.

Route via Olešnice and Practical Information

If you approach Crhov via Olešnice or plan to use cycling route No. 5089, note the documented conditions on road II/362. The section between the end of Crhov and the beginning of the town of Olešnice was completely closed from 10 to 16 August 2026. Further work was then carried out there until the end of September 2026, provisionally, under traffic-light-controlled alternating traffic. For travel, this initially meant a complete interruption; afterwards, traffic was possible there only in alternating directions. The two traffic phases should therefore be considered separately: first the complete closure, followed by traffic-light-controlled alternating traffic.
