Dolní Lhota: Trails, Water and Places of Remembrance

When you choose Dolní Lhota as a destination in the Czech Republic, several clearly distinct themes come together: marked trails, a specific connection to the Svitava, and places of remembrance in the village. The routes connect the village with destinations in different directions and over different distances. At the same time, the monument on the village green and a memorial plaque at house no. 79 commemorate events and individuals recorded in the village landscape. When planning your trip, you can therefore weigh active routes, a waterside landscape setting and village history against one another.

Marked Routes of Different Lengths

The red-marked tourist trail no. 509 leads from Lomnice via Lysice and Doubravice n. Sv. to Dolní Lhota. The route is 37.7 km long and places the village within a longer route with several stops. Those interested in this trail will find a considerably more extensive connection than the shorter route from Dolní Lhota to Olešnice.

This second connection is the green-marked hiking trail no. 4505. It leads from Dolní Lhota to Olešnice and is 8.5 km long. The difference between the two distances is relevant when choosing the type of excursion you want: on the one hand, there is a 37.7 km tourist trail whose destination is Dolní Lhota; on the other, an 8.5 km hiking trail that starts in the village and leads to Olešnice.

Another option is the 32 km excursion on route no. 5160 from Letovice to Svojanov and back. This route passes through Dolní Lhota. Here, the village is therefore part of a circular connection between Letovice and Svojanov, rather than merely the starting point or endpoint of a single route. For a trip with different interests, you can thus consider longer connections, a shorter hiking trail and an excursion with a return leg separately.

The Svitava as a Specific Landscape Feature

The waterside orientation includes the Svitava 3 trout fishing district, number 463 064. It extends as far as the road bridge on the road to Dolní Lhota railway station. Initial conclusions from a study also indicate that the fish species in the Svitava are capable of reproducing naturally.

Village History on the Green and at House No. 79

A monument to the victims of the First and Second World Wars stands in the park on Dolní Lhota’s village green. The inscription commemorates those who fell and were tortured in both world wars. The place of remembrance therefore preserves not merely a general designation of the victims, but explicitly names both historical conflicts in its inscription.

Another biographical connection can be found at house no. 79, where a memorial plaque to Jaroslav Štěrbáček is affixed. The plaque is located at his birthplace. Jaroslav Štěrbáček is also listed among the honored names on the monument. In the village, you will therefore encounter both a communal war memorial and a plaque dedicated to an individual and associated with his birthplace.
