Landscape between Hills and Floodplain

Horní Loučky lies in the hilly landscape on the southeastern edge of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. The landscape and documented history are among the defining characteristics of the village. The Bobrůvka, also called the Loučka, flows through Horní Loučky for a short stretch and forms a broader floodplain there. At the same time, the area is characterized by deeply incised valleys carved by watercourses, very steep, in places rocky slopes, and a narrow floodplain.

History from 1353 to Tišnov Monastery

Horní Loučky has been documented in writing since 1353. Another historical turning point followed in 1502: at that time, the two villages of Loučky, a dilapidated castle, a vicarage, and a farm were sold to Jan and Václav of Lomnice. On April 16, 1519, the castle site and the village of Horní Loučky were sold to Tišnov Monastery.

Several different monuments form part of the local culture of remembrance. The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands in Horní Loučky. Near the chapel is a memorial to those who fell in the First World War. It is made of gneiss and bears a marble plaque with the names of nine local residents. The bust of Hynek Kokojan is also part of the local commemoration. It depicts the local man from Horní Loučky in uniform with decorations and was created in 1946 by the sculptor Josef Baják.

Crosses, Village Square, and Paths in the Surroundings

A marble cross stands in the fields on the road to Kaly, between two lime trees. It was donated by the Halouzkov family in 1920. There is also a sandstone cross on the village square. Its pedestal bears the year 1864 as well as the apparently later-added year 1883; the corpus is gilded. Together with the chapel and the bust, these memorials do not form an interchangeable collection, but rather represent different forms of local remembrance: religious symbols, a monument to those who fell, and a depiction of a person from the village.

In the neighboring municipality of Dolní Loučky, visitors can reach a red hiking trail that leads into the picturesque valley of the Bobrůvka.

A traditional pilgrimage festival was announced in Horní Loučky for Sunday, August 16, 2026, on the occasion of the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
