Rašov between history, nature and village life

Rašov offers a variety of starting points for planning a trip – from its remarkable church history and visible traces of the original settlement to extensive forests and vibrant local traditions. Culture, nature and community events each represent different areas of interest.

Church and historical traces

One of the local sights is the Church of St. James the Elder. Its history goes back a long way: the parish with the church in Rašov was first mentioned in 1492. The present church building was constructed in 1835 partly on the old foundations of a presumably Romanesque chapel. A visit is therefore not only an opportunity to see a single building, but also to get to know a place with several historical layers. The wording “presumably Romanesque” preserves the historical character of the tradition without claiming more certainty than the known history allows.

Another point of cultural and historical interest lies north of Rašov: the Staré Rašovy field locality is associated with the site of the original settlement. The remains of a pond dam and terraces for houses are still visible there today. These traces make the landscape itself part of the history of the place. Those interested in past settlement patterns will therefore find a different kind of attraction here than at the church: not a fully preserved complex, but recognizable remains in the terrain.

Forests, sports and time outdoors

Rašov is surrounded by the extensive forests of the Svratecká hornatina Nature Park. This landscape setting shapes the impression of the village and complements its historical themes with a distinctly nature-oriented side. Cultural traces and the surrounding landscape can thus be viewed as different facets of Rašov.

For active leisure in the village, a tennis court is available. Tennis and nohejbal are played there, and use is free of charge. The Výletiště in Rašov is used for cultural and community events outdoors. There is also a children's playground. Families therefore have a specific place where children can spend time outdoors, while the venue is also used for events organized by the local community.

Discover local traditions

Culinary and craft traditions are also part of Rašov's character. The village has a long-standing beekeeping tradition. At present, seven beekeepers pursue this activity and regularly offer their own honey for sale. The Rašov Goulash Festival adds another local touch: it is a competition for the best goulash. Both examples represent different forms of local life – in one case, a regularly offered product; in the other, an event with a competitive character.
