Rebešovice – Brno–Vienna Cycle Route and Historic Sites

Cycling between Brno and Vienna

The Brno–Vienna Cycle Route passes through Rebešovice. The route runs mainly along quiet paths away from main roads and has no steep climbs. This means you can plan the cycling trip as a focus in its own right or combine it with exploring the village. For orientation, the route change from autumn 2022 is also important: the cycle route through Rebešovice was changed at that time and replaced by a new bypass.

This new bypass initially runs along the riverbank, then leads across fields to Rebešovický rybník and continues past the local willow nursery. It then crosses the Ivanovický potok over a small bridge and reconnects to the existing route towards Olympia beyond it.

Zámeček, Chapels and Special Monuments

Zámeček, with the Chapel of St Dorota, was built in 1694 by Provost Benno Brancouzský on the site of an older freehold farm. Mass is held in the chapel every Saturday. Zámeček also houses a chateau restaurant and a library. Thus, this historic site contains not only architectural traces but also two specific facilities that form part of the character of the ensemble.

Below Zámeček, on the slope near a water spring, stands the Chapel of St John of Nepomuk. It is a late Baroque building from the 18th century; a statue of St John of Nepomuk stands by the spring. The chapel is considered a valuable cultural and historical monument and contributes to the character of Rebešovice. Another striking testament is the 1778 Rococo cast-iron cross. It stands on an unusual red sandstone pedestal bearing a high relief of Our Lady of Sorrows.

On the village square, you can also see the classicist rustic bell tower. It was built around 1830 and has a square floor plan. The different architectural forms and periods in particular make the village tour varied: the ensemble ranges from the 17th-century Zámeček through the late Baroque chapel and Rococo cross to the 19th-century bell tower.

Traditions and Events

Local club life is also part of the character of Rebešovice. TJ Sokol Rebešovice organizes numerous sporting events and tournaments every year. At the traditionally known Rebešovické Hody on 7 and 8 February 2026, the programme included a procession of the Stárci through the village and a Moravská beseda performed by the Stárci in front of Zámeček. This event has already taken place; the Moravská beseda was performed in front of Zámeček.

Rebešovice is therefore particularly interesting when choosing accommodation if you do not want to plan cycling and cultural discoveries separately. Depending on your personal focus, you can make the Brno–Vienna route, the historic buildings or the local events the centrepiece of your stay.
