Oleksovice – Nature, Wine, Water and Culture

Protected nature and special species

The Oleksovická mokřina is a 43.96-hectare protected natural monument. It includes reed beds bordered at their edges by groups of alder and willow shrubs and trees. Suitable floodplain woodland is also found in places; numerous protected and endangered animal species occur there. This combination of wetlands, woody vegetation and floodplain woodland gives the landscape a different character from the vineyards of Oleksovice.

Another natural feature is the Oleksovické vřesoviště. It comprises heathland and sand pits where heather (Calluna vulgaris) and grey hair-grass (Corynephorus canescens) grow. Sand martins (Riparia riparia) and European bee-eaters (Merops apiaster) are also found there. Different plant habitats and animal species therefore coexist in this area.

Vineyards and regional character

Oleksovice has four vineyard sites: “Rusteny”, “Rajny”, “U lipky” and “U zámku”. Together, the vineyards cover 42 ha and are predominantly planted with Müller-Thurgau.
