Discover Milíčovice
Milíčovice between local history and the nature of Podyjí
Milíčovice is located near Podyjí National Park and combines a manageable local history with paths leading into the surrounding landscape. This creates a destination that brings together several interests: sacred buildings, historical traces, cycling connections and quiet routes for observing nature. Those looking for a hotel in Milíčovice can therefore shape their stay around different experiences without reducing the village to just one theme.
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the bell tower
A prominent historical landmark is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, known in Czech as Kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie. It was built in 1760–1762 as a cemetery chapel and remodelled into its present form in 1860. Since 1958, it has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. At the same time, it is a filial church of the Roman Catholic parish of Lukov u Znojma. The local sacred history also includes the bell tower, which the municipality of Milíčovice had restored.
Althanský Hostinec: relay station and cultural monument
Another historical trace is the Althanský Hostinec. The building is a historical cultural monument erected around 1750 at the instigation of Michal Antonín Althann. The Althanský Hostinec served as a relay station for stagecoaches. The coat of arms of the Althann family is still located above its entrance. The building thus tells not only of an earlier transport connection, but also preserves a visible sign of its historical affiliation.
Cycle routes, field paths and small sacred buildings
Milíčovice has a simple connection to regional cycle route 5007. The international long-distance cycle route EuroVelo 13 – Stezka železné opony, known in English as the Iron Curtain Trail, can also be reached from the surrounding area. This gives you a range of cycling options: Route 5007 is regional in scope, while EuroVelo 13 is an international long-distance cycle route.
The village's features also lend themselves to shorter outings. Quiet forest and field paths around Milíčovice are suitable for easy excursions towards the nature of Podyjí and for observing nature. Preserved small sacred buildings, including Boží muka, stand along the old field paths in the cadastral area of Milíčovice. These waypoints give walks and cycling trips an additional cultural connection, so that the landscape does not appear merely as a space to pass through.
The tradition of Posvícení
The traditional Posvícení in Milíčovice includes a procession through the village accompanied by the Sebranka brass band. This tradition complements the permanently visible buildings with a communal occasion. Together with the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the bell tower and the Althanský Hostinec, it creates an image of Milíčovice in which history, local customs and the landscape stand closely alongside one another.
