Lipov: Landscape, Water and Moravian Folklore

Lipov, in the Moravian part of the White Carpathians, combines water, landscape and the distinctive culture of Horňácko. This makes the town an interesting choice if you would like to combine different priorities during your stay: a swimming pool with several pools and a slide, paths through the landscape, regional wine and cycling traditions, and a strong folklore heritage. The town centre also has a notable cultural landmark.

Water and Landscape in the White Carpathians

Lipov’s municipal swimming pool has a 33 × 20-metre stainless-steel swimming pool. Koupaliště Lipov also includes a 6 × 6-metre paddling pool and a slide. A beach volleyball court complements the facilities.

Koupaliště Lipov is located on the Velička River in the foothill landscape of the White Carpathians. At the southern edge of Lipov, the White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area extends in a narrow strip along the road from Tasov to Hrubá Vrbka. Another protected natural site is Háj u Lipova. The natural monument was first designated on 4 July 1956 and protects a site where the rare two-leaved squill grows.

Hiking, Cycling and the Wine Landscape

A blue-marked hiking trail passes through Lipov. It runs towards Veselí nad Moravou or in the opposite direction to Velká nad Veličkou and onwards to Velká Javořina. For cyclists, the Horňácký okruh route passes through Lipov’s cadastral area. The Strážnická wine trail has a clearly defined route profile: 64% runs along roads with light traffic, and 36% along cycle paths and paved farm tracks.

The Strážnická itself is also part of the townscape. Within Lipov’s built-up area, it runs from east to west. When choosing accommodation, you can therefore use your preferred daily rhythm as your starting point: water, paths and landscape, or the cultural attractions in the town. Church, Folk Costume and Horňácko Culture

The parish Church of All Saints is Lipov’s most important landmark and is located in the town centre. In 1880, a new neo-Romanesque Church of All Saints was built on the site of the former church. Its interior features wooden galleries and a decorated wooden ceiling. Through its architectural history and preserved design elements, the church provides a concrete cultural landmark for exploring the town.

Regional identity is also reflected in the folk costume. Lipov’s current folk costume differs from those of other Horňácko municipalities due to influences from the neighbouring regional areas of Strážnicko, Veselsko and Ostrožsko. Lipov’s old folk costume was reconstructed in 2000. Lipov is one of the villages in the distinctive ethnographic region of Horňácko.

LIPOVJAN was founded in 1972 and organises the town’s church feast, the Štěpánská beseda u cimbálu and Christmas singing in Lipov. In addition, every two years, as part of the annual Májová beseda u cimbálu, a regional round of the competition for the best dancer of the Slovak verbuňk dance takes place. Other important local events include Lipovský fašanek, Lipovské hody and the preview performance of the Mladé Horňácko folklore festival.

A Moravian Town with Its Own Character

Winegrowing is also part of the region’s character. AGROLIP produces country wines, quality wines and quality wines with a designation of origin from grapes grown in its own vineyards in the cadastral areas of Lipov and Louka.
