Unín combines experiences in nature with an unusually clear local history. Within the cadastral area, recreation in the countryside focuses on hiking and cycling. At the same time, the Church of St. Peter and Paul, memorial sites, and historical traces shape the character of the municipality.

Cycling and Hiking Around Unín

Marked Cycle Route No. 1 runs through the Unín area along Road III/37913. It therefore provides a specific point of reference for exploring the surroundings by bicycle. In addition, a marked hiking trail passes through the southern part of the cadastral area. The two options offer different experiences: while the cycle route follows a designated path, the hiking trail provides an opportunity to experience the southern landscape on foot.

Because of the low level of motor traffic, bicycles can be ridden on roads, local roads, and purpose-built paths in the Unín area. The Krkatá Bába nature monument near Unín is associated with hiking destinations.

Smaller landscape features also add to the overall picture. Near the parish church, there are three memorial trees in the cadastral area of Unín. They are not major destinations in their own right, but they show that the local points of interest are not limited to trails and larger attractions. As memorial trees, they connect the landscape with the memory of the place.

Church, Monument, and Historical Traces

The Church of St. Peter and Paul in Unín is a Josephine, early Neoclassical building constructed in 1792. It is regarded as a valuable historic monument and an urban landmark of the municipality. This makes it a particularly distinctive cultural point of reference within the village. Here, the term “Josephine” refers to the period of reform and construction shaped under Joseph II; for visitors, what remains most tangible is the combination of its construction date, early Neoclassical design, and importance to the village’s appearance.

Another trace leads to the Josef Bednář Monument. A new map of Unín and its immediate surroundings has been installed nearby. It combines the memory of a local personality with an orientation guide to the village and its immediate surroundings. Josef Bednář was an important figure in the municipality of Unín and a fighter pilot with the RAF’s No. 312 Squadron; he also served in this squadron. His military career adds a biographical dimension to the monument’s local significance.

The centre of Unín was once home to the so-called Hradisko. Hradisko therefore belongs to the former history of the village and does not refer to an institution that exists today. For this very reason, Hradisko complements the more recent memorial sites and the church with another layer of history.
