Tetčice between the Bobrava Valley and Cultural Monuments

Tetčice combines remarkable cultural monuments with wooded highlands and the protected Bobrava Valley. If you are looking for a place in Czechia with traces of history and opportunities for walks, several different experiences come together here: religious buildings in the oldest part of the village, a nature park with deep stream valleys, and the Bučín nature trail with natural history, forestry and historical themes.

Cultural Monuments with a History of Their Own

In the oldest part of Tetčice stands the Chapel of St. Florian, Kaple sv. Floriana. It was built in 1764 in the Romanesque style. Its tower was added in 1886, and the chapel also has a steel bell made in 1918. The individual construction phases make the chapel a place where the development of the building can be clearly traced.

Another monument is located near Tetčice railway station: the Baroque statue of St. John of Nepomuk stands on a rocky hill. The Tetčice Calvary group was erected in 1850. It consists of a cross and two pylons with reliefs of St. John the Evangelist and the Virgin Mary. The local traditional costume, Tetčický kroj, was also restored to preserve cultural traditions.

Bučín: Wooded Highland and Remarkable Trees

The natural area around Tetčice extends to the wooded Bobravská vrchovina highlands. At 444 metres, Bučín is the highest point there. A highly visible group of nine mighty, ancient beech trees stands at the summit. Older stands of trees are also notable for nature enthusiasts: above Tetčice lies the approximately one-hectare “Bučínská štětka” stand, which is almost 200 years old. In the Tmavý žleb valley on Bučín stands a European beech estimated to be 300 years old and counted among the largest and most powerful trees in the area.

The landscape below the highland also shapes the character of the village. The Bobrava River enters its valley at Tetčice; the surrounding valley is protected as Bobrava Nature Park. This makes it possible to combine cultural destinations in the village with a natural area defined by forests and stream valleys when planning a day trip.

Nature Trails and Walks in the Bobrava Valley

The Bučín nature trail is easy, has a paved surface and features nine stations. Approximately three hours are allowed for the visit. It can be visited year-round and is also maintained in winter. The Naučná stezka Bučín nature trail presents the natural, forestry and historical features of the Bučín forestry district in Bobrava Nature Park.

The Bobrava Valley around Tetčice invites visitors to take walks through extensive forests and deep stream valleys. Depending on your preferred focus, peaceful impressions of the landscape or wildlife observation can take centre stage: in the valley, you can collect mushrooms and observe wild animals and birds. This creates a destination that encompasses not only individual sights but also various ways of experiencing nature.
