Discover Višňové
Višňové combines spiritual sites, historical evidence, and a viewpoint with an unusually expansive panorama. Here, you can combine different ways of exploring: Cesta spásy with its stone artefacts, the view from Stará hora, the church “kostel sv. Jana Křtitele,” and technical history at the historic wind turbine. When planning a stay, the town therefore offers several clearly distinct focal points, without any single attraction determining the character of Višňové.
Cesta spásy: ten stations with their own identification
Cesta spásy consists of ten stations. Each station has artefacts in the form of large stone blocks. At every station, there is a description with the station’s number and name, a QR code with a legend, and the name of the respective donor. Anyone interested in a route with religious and design-related significance will therefore find not only a sequence of stations here, but also information directly at each individual point. This focus can be clearly distinguished from the town’s landscape and cultural-history themes, especially when a travel group has different interests.
Stará hora and views in four directions
Stará hora, with a viewpoint, lies north of Višňové. From there, the view extends east to the Pálava Hills, south to Austria, north to the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant, and west to the villages located there. The four viewing directions give the viewpoint a distinctive geographical character: natural landscape, neighbouring country, major technical structure, and settlement landscape appear as different parts of the same panorama.
In 2019, the Stará hora viewpoint was supplemented with a new viewing pavilion, a covered tourist rest area, and an orientation map. For you, this provides a concrete way to structure your time there not only around the distant view, but also around the orientation facilities available on site. The “Výlet na Starou horu” excursion partly follows an asphalt road and partly a field track. These two surfaces are part of the described excursion route and should be taken into account when choosing a suitable day itinerary.
Church, festival traditions, and music
The church “kostel sv. Jana Křtitele” contains eight Renaissance tombstones from the 16th and 17th centuries beneath the gallery. Višňové therefore has a specific cultural and historical detail that differs from the viewpoints and landscape themes around Stará hora. The annual Višňovská pouť ke svatému Janu Křtiteli combines social interaction, faith, music, and traditions. It thus represents a recurring local occasion at which several elements of community life come together.
Music is also present in the surviving event-related records. At the “Dobré víno a krásná hudba” event, cimbalom music was played. This information is particularly interesting for travellers who would like to experience regional concert and festival culture alongside the landscape and architectural history, without extending the character of the event to a general music offering.
A technical relic from 1910
The historic wind turbine of Višňové is a turbine from 1910. Originally, it powered a drinking-water pump. Its former function makes the wind turbine more than a decorative detail: it points to the technical use of wind power and complements the religious, landscape, and festival themes with a historical connection to the town’s water supply.
Stará hora with a view to the future
A near-natural landscape area with elements of a forest park and a viewpoint is planned for Stará hora in the future. The planned elements belong to future development and should be considered separately from the viewpoint’s existing facilities. When choosing Višňové, you can therefore distinguish between existing features—the viewing pavilion, covered rest area, orientation map, and the routes described—and the planned further development of the landscape area.
