Drahonín Between Gorge, Hiking Trails and History

Drahonín is situated in the hilly landscape of the Vysočina region, combining a striking natural setting with traces of history. The Trenckova Gorge is particularly distinctive: a short, very steep gorge where a small stream forms waterfalls and cascades. Trenckova Gorge: Waterfalls, Cascades and a Natural Monument

Fixed ropes have been installed in the exposed sections of Trenckova Gorge around the cascades and waterfalls. This feature is an integral part of the gorge’s character and distinguishes it from an ordinary walking trail. The name is also associated with a legend: the famous Pandur Baron Trenck is said to have hidden here from the soldiers of Empress Maria Theresa.

Trenckova Gorge is designated as a natural monument. The protected area encompasses the cadastral territories of Drahonín and Víckov. The protected subject of the natural monument also includes green cobweb moss (Buxbaumia viridis). The natural setting, historical story and specific route through the steep sections are therefore closely connected here, without reducing the gorge to just one attraction.

Two Hiking Ideas with Different Destinations

From Drahonín, the route leads via Šafránkův mlýn down into the valley of the Loučka River. There, it connects to the red hiking trail towards Tišnov. This connection places Drahonín within a larger hiking network while also leading to a historic site in the Loučka Valley. Another option also starts in Drahonín: a green-marked hiking route leads to the ruins of Košíkov Castle.

Around Košíkov Castle, the remains of the walls of a massive prismatic tower, as well as traces of the walls and the outer bailey, have been preserved. This creates a clear distinction for planning your day between a route connected with the valley and continuing towards Tišnov, and a hike whose destination is castle ruins. Both trails begin in Drahonín but focus on different features.

Chapel, Open-Air Grounds and Historic Buildings

There are also several cultural points of interest in and around Drahonín. Festive services are held in the Chapel of Christ the King, which was consecrated in 1935. An annual gathering of accordion players takes place at the summer open-air grounds in Drahonín. Both religious use and a recurring musical event are therefore part of the documented character of the village.

The Šafránkova hunting lodge, dating from 1939, also stands in the surrounding area. It was designed by Bohuslav Fuchs. The historic Šafránkův mlýn from 1666 is likewise located nearby, in the valley of the Loučka River. Together with the remains of Košíkov Castle, these sites are not an arbitrary collection of buildings but represent several distinct historical traces: a chapel in the village, a hunting lodge designed by Bohuslav Fuchs and a historic mill in the valley.

Outdoor Swimming Pool in the Lower Part of the Village

The Koupaliště Drahonín outdoor swimming pool is located in the lower part of Drahonín next to the sports grounds. It has a children’s paddling pool and a 25 × 12 metre pool with regularly cleaned and chemically treated water. There are also grassy sunbathing areas, a diving tower, a snack stand and sanitary facilities. For families, the distinction between the children’s paddling pool and the larger pool is particularly interesting; at the same time, the grounds offer space for lounging and other permanent facilities alongside the water.

Choose Drahonín as Your Base

Drahonín is integrated into the Integrated Transport System of the South Moravian Region (IDS JMK). When choosing accommodation, the village can therefore be considered primarily according to your preferred focus: Trenckova Gorge and the two hiking trails described above are suited to active days, while the chapel, castle remains, mill and hunting lodge appeal to a more cultural and historical exploration.
