Doubravník – Culture, Nature and Trails

Doubravník combines remarkable architecture with protected landscapes, historic trails and vibrant local culture. Churches, heritage zone and regional culture

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is at the heart of the town’s history. This Late Gothic three-nave hall church was built between 1535 and 1557. Its furnishings include a valuable Renaissance pulpit and a rare Baroque organ by Jan Výmola dating from 1760. This makes it possible to trace different periods of sacred art in a single historic building.

The historic centre of Doubravník is also designated as an urban heritage zone. Further landmarks of the town’s history include the Chapel of Saint Mary Magdalene on Bozinka, built in 1692, and the Mitrovský Crypt with 19 cast-iron sarcophagi. In Křížovice, a district of Doubravník, Galerie z ruky organises major cultural events several times a year.

A distinctive tradition is the Doubravnické hody festival. This traditional celebration is held regularly on the Sunday of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and includes a procession in traditional costumes, a maypole ceremony, the ortel ritual and dancing beneath the maypole. Natural areas, bridge and marked trails

The Doubravník area includes the Sokolí skála Nature Reserve near the settlement of Prudká. At the same time, Doubravnicko forms part of the Svratecká hornatina Nature Park. These two features give the landscape a clear natural and protected-area character without limiting the town to just one type of excursion.

Prudká is also home to a covered wooden footbridge. It was built in 1899 by master carpenter Jan Nejez of Železné for the workers of the nearby C. M. Kopřiva paper mill and has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1994. The bridge is intended for pedestrians and forms part of the Prague–Vienna international cycle route in the EuroVelo network.

For a hiking or cultural route, Educational Trail III from Pernštejn via Sejřek to Doubravník is relevant. It follows a green-marked route to Doubravník and connects Pernštejn Castle with the town. This allows Doubravník to be viewed in the context of a route between the castle and the town, rather than limiting your stay to the centre alone.

In the Tišnovsko area, regular public transport is provided by a single-track railway line and buses as part of the transport system organised by the South Moravian Region.
