Borotín

Borotín combines late Baroque culture, an unusually diverse garden landscape and the open countryside of Malá Haná. The village lies at the eastern foot of the wooded foothills of the Podorlická pahorkatina uplands, which descend into the fertile Boskovická brázda depression. As a result, Borotín brings together wooded slopes, old orchards and wide regional views. Late Baroque culture in the village centre

A defining building is the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The late Baroque church was built between 1786 and 1788. Its interior features typical Baroque furnishings and interesting stained-glass windows. It therefore provides a specific cultural focus for exploring Borotín, without the village being limited to a single historic building.

At the upper end of the village square, there is also a late Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. Together with the church, it makes the history of the village visible in the public space. At the same time, an important limitation should be taken into account when planning: Borotín Castle and its park are not open to the public. They are therefore not among the village’s regular publicly accessible attractions.

Arboretum, water and trails

A special aspect of Borotín is its arboretum, founded in 1975. It covers 4.5 hectares and includes nearly 3,000 plant species. Its design ranges from Japanese and Chinese gardens through bonsai to alpine gardens with ponds. The grounds are complemented by a water wall and a pavilion with a rooftop garden. Those who want to experience nature on their journey not only as a landscape but also in designed forms will find several different garden settings in one place here.

Above Borotín there is a fire-water reservoir that is used as an outdoor swimming pool in summer. There are also trails of different character for active days. The Hanýsek educational trail follows field and forest paths to the arboretum in Borotín. Cesta přírodou pod Borotínem is an 11-kilometre, approximately three-hour circular route for hiking, cycling and walks with a pram. The combination of field and forest paths, the arboretum and the circular trail makes it easier to choose between a longer tour and a more relaxed exploration.

Views and local character

The old orchards above Borotín offer wide views across the entire Malá Haná region. This viewpoint connects the agricultural character of the village with the wooded foothills in the background. Borotín is also known for fruit growing and the products of the local distillery, especially slivovitz. Regional products and the landscape are therefore closely linked to the local character, without the cultural and botanical attractions fading into the background.
