Olešnice na Moravě – Museums, Blue-Printing and History

Olešnice na Moravě combines an unusual local history with lively craft traditions and small museums. Between the Legends Museum in the cellar of a former icehouse, the Danzinger workshop, which has existed since 1816, a historic church and a collection of Czechoslovak vehicles, there are several concrete points of interest for a cultural stay. The topics range from a historic building and its later use as a museum to traditional forms and recipes and the preservation of technical exhibits.

Legends in the Former Icehouse

The Olešnické muzeum strašidel, the Olešnice Legends Museum, is located on náměstí Míru below the church and opposite the town hall. It is housed in the cellar of a former icehouse built at the beginning of the 19th century. In 2003, the cellar was repurposed as the Olešnice Legends Museum. The building itself is therefore also part of the history of this museum location: the visit takes you into a cellar whose original function and later use are clearly separated in time.

Blue-Printing as a Traditional Craft

Another focal point is the Danzinger workshop in Olešnice na Moravě. It has existed since 1816 and continues to use forms and recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation for more than 160 years. This long tradition is directly connected with the workshop and shapes the craft focus of this place.

The Danzinger workshop offers excursions during which you can learn about the blue-printing process. You can also create your own pattern for blue-printing. The offering thus combines two different approaches: you receive an introduction to the blue-printing process and can also make a pattern yourself. The visit therefore goes beyond viewing the workshop and also includes your own creative activity, without exceeding the documented scope of the workshop.

Church and Historic Vehicles

The church “Kostel sv. Mikuláše” is another prominent point of cultural and historical interest. It was built in 1725. As an independent historic building, it complements the craft and museum stops with a religious site whose year of construction is clearly documented.

The Museum of Historic Vehicles offers another perspective on the past. It displays historic automobiles and motorcycles manufactured in Czechoslovakia. The vehicles are collected by Petr Hamerský in his workshop and restored to their original condition. The focus is therefore on both the origins of the exhibited vehicles and their preservation: the collection is closely connected with the workshop where Petr Hamerský collects and restores the vehicles. While the Legends Museum was established in a former icehouse, this museum illustrates history through specific technical objects and their restoration.
