Sudoměřice U Bechyně reveals its character through a large rectangular village square that reflects the historic character of the settlement. A biography is also part of the local history: Karel Hugo Hilar, director of the National Theatre and born Karel Bakule, was born on 5 November 1885 in Sudoměřice, in house no. 62; a commemorative plaque is located on his birthplace.

Village Monuments and Architecture

Bechyňská Smoleč is designated as a village conservation area and is an example of a medieval colonization settlement, first mentioned in 1511. Its architectural appeal is defined by decorated farmsteads with Baroque gables, pilasters, volutes and stucco details.

It meets the definition of a cultural monument under Section 2 of Act No. 20/1987 Coll. on State Monument Preservation.

Nature and Cycling

In the Černická obora Nature Monument, pedunculate oaks dominate the acidophilous oak forests; the herb layer contains several different plant species.

For cyclists, a 30 km cycling route leads from Bechyně via Hutě, Černýšovice, Bechyňská Smoleč, the Marunka forester’s lodge, Černice with its golf course, Černická obora and Hodonice back to Bechyně. It also passes through Sudoměřice u Bechyně. The 30 km provides a fixed point of comparison for planning an excursion.

An unusual historical detail is the spherical Krevel formations with a cavity filled with fine yellow sand. They were once common after ploughing and rain, but are rare today.
