Řemíčov brings together a long history of settlement, silver mining in the 18th century, and a South Bohemian landscape of fields, pastures, copses and larger wooded areas. There is also a chapel and a memorial oak in Buková, as well as hiking and cycling routes that pass through the village. If you would like to consider cultural history and the landscape together when choosing your destination, Řemíčov offers several specific points of interest.

Silver mining as a defining chapter

The first written record of Řemíčov dates from 1456. The village’s history thus reaches back much further than the silver ore mining that began in the surrounding area under František Küenburg in the mid-18th century. From 1757 to 1762, the Küenburgs extracted 2,713 kg of pure silver from the mines of Řemíčov. The period and quantity give the mining a specific historical dimension and place it as a later chapter in the village’s history.

A marble plaque on house no. 1 commemorates the silver mines founded there in 1751. The building originally served as the headquarters of the senior mining official, accommodation for miners and a base for other mining operations. Administration, accommodation and mining are all part of its history. The “Leopoldova štola” adit was opened near the house. Later, south of Řemíčov, the mining settlement of Starý Cech was established at the site of the “Sv. Trojice štola” adit.

Village character and landscape

Buková is also a local landmark: the district has a chapel and a memorial oak. These two features complement the mining history with smaller points of interest in the area. They offer another perspective on Řemíčov without taking silver mining out of the central place it holds in the village’s history.

Fields, pastures, copses and larger wooded areas alternate in the surrounding countryside. Their appearance changes with the seasons. The landscape therefore cannot be reduced to a single impression: depending on when you visit, open areas or the larger wooded areas may stand out more. Together with the historical sites, this makes Řemíčov a destination where you can choose between local history and the natural surroundings.

Planning a hike or bike ride

The “Stříbrná osmička” educational trail passes through Řemíčov, is about 50 km long and is also suitable for cyclists. Its approximate length gives you a concrete sense of the route’s scale when choosing a trip. A green-marked hiking route also passes through Řemíčov and continues via Mladá Vožice, Pavlov, Staniměřice and Smilovy Hory. This sequence of places shows that Řemíčov is part of a longer route.

Cyclists can also take cycle route no. 1177 through Řemíčov. It continues via Louňovice pod Blaníkem, Předbořice, Kamberk, Skrýšov, Šebířov, Mladá Vožice, Stará Vožice, Hlasivo, Ratibořice, Jeníčkova Lhota and Čekanice, ending in Tábor. The two routes offer different ways to get your bearings: the “Stříbrná osmička” has an approximate total length, while route no. 1177 can be identified by its sequence of named places. Before setting out, check the current route, markings and trail conditions.
