Drachov: Lužnice, nature conservation and Gothic traces

Anyone wishing to combine nature, water and history in the Czech Republic will find several different ways to experience one place in Drachov: the Lužnice shapes the landscape, protected floodplain areas preserve special habitats, and the church and fortress point to a long local history. Protected river landscapes along the Lužnice

Water experiences with different focuses

Dráchov is currently particularly popular with water sports enthusiasts who travel along the Lužnice. On the Lužnice in Dráchov, a bathing area is located on the right bank of the river, 200 meters from the new bridge. The water depth ranges from approximately 30 centimeters to 1 meter, and the site is considered suitable for children. This creates two clearly distinct types of water experience for planning your day: a trip along the Lužnice brings movement on the river, while the bathing area allows you to spend time by the water. Church, fortress and local history

Dráchov is associated with an archaeological site, a parish village documented as early as the 14th century, and a fortress. The Gothic Church of Saint Wenceslas is first mentioned in 1353. It contains gravestones of the Lords of Dráchov and other former owners of the municipality, including Wratislaw von Mitrowitz. The furnishings also include three Gothic bells, one of which bears a dragon relief. The church thus brings together medieval local history, historical names and a striking detail of its furnishings.

The traces of the former fortress also form part of the historical character of the village. A pond called Návětří is still located nearby today. Above the farmstead stands an old barn described as the former fortress of the Lords of Dráchov. These points are thematically close to one another and complement a visit to the church with further historical points of interest.
