Předenice: History That Remains Visible in the Village

Předenice is a destination for travellers who want to combine their stay with local Bohemian history and cultural discoveries. The village was first mentioned in 1239 in a document issued by Kladruby Monastery. Before 1379, Předenice passed from ecclesiastical into secular ownership. In the 15th century, the farms of Předenice gradually became divided into two parts of the village. This development makes the village particularly interesting if you want to learn not only about individual sights but also about the historical changes of an established village.

A Fortified Site and Changing Ownership

Among the notable traces of the past is the former fortified site of Předenice. It stood on the site of today’s house No. 27; earthworks have been preserved in its garden. The site lost its function as a noble residence and fell into disrepair. It is therefore not a fully preserved château, but a historic place where the transformation of a once-important site can be understood.

The history of ownership also shows how Předenice was divided over the centuries. In 1540, Trystan of the Předenicer family sold part of Předenice to the Nebílovy estate. The second part of Předenice was assigned to the Řenče estate in 1603 and later to Dolní Lukavice. In addition, the Chapel of the Virgin Mary is associated with Předenice. Those interested in regional history will therefore find several different points of connection here: an early documentary mention, divided parts of the village, changing ties to estates and preserved traces of a former fortification.

Nebílovy Educational Trail and Château Culture

It begins at the Baroque château in Nebílovy. A special stop is the column with the statue of the Holy Trinity on the Nebílovy educational trail, which dates approximately from the mid-18th century. The trail thus combines historical information panels with individual examples of Baroque and religious design.

Another focus is Dolní Lukavice Château. It was built from 1708 onwards according to a design by the architect Jakub Auguston the Younger. The château’s history is also connected with Joseph Haydn: he worked at Dolní Lukavice Château from 1758 to 1760 and composed his first symphony there. This creates a clear cultural contrast between the compact trail with six stops and the château’s history, which brings together architecture and music history.
