Chlumčany U Přeštic: Nature Trails, Hujáb and MotoMuzeum
Chlumčany U Přeštic offers unusual destinations for anyone who wants to combine an active stay with local history and technology. Two educational trails explore different facets of the town: one focuses on the history and culture of Chlumčany, while the other combines industry and nature. In addition, the MotoMuzeum Chlumčany houses an extensive collection of historic motorcycles.
Two educational trails with different themes
The “People and Culture of Chlumčany” educational trail runs around Hujáb Hill. The route is 2.8 kilometres long and includes six information stations about the history of Chlumčany. The trail is suitable for pedestrians, cyclists and families with children; it is also accessible with a pushchair. This provides a direct way to explore local cultural topics without presenting the town’s entire history only in a museum.
A different perspective is offered by the six-kilometre “Industry and Nature of Chlumčany” educational trail. It leads from the market square through Chlumčany’s industrial district to a forest pond. Those who want to compare two different types of route during their stay will find a shorter trail around Hujáb Hill and a longer connection between the market square, the industrial district and the natural landscape. The routes therefore have different focuses and can be considered independent excursion ideas.
Hujáb, the chapel and distinctive landscape features
There is a stone circle on Hujáb Hill. It is a modern megalithic structure with 16 large perimeter stones, a central menhir and four additional menhirs. This clearly defined ensemble adds a distinctive place to the educational trail, where the landscape is shaped by a deliberately arranged stone setting.
The “People and Culture of Chlumčany” educational trail also leads to the Chapel of the Virgin Mary, which was formerly known as “Our Lady of Perpetual Help.” The Chapel of Our Lady of Help is a Baroque structure dating from 1749–1751. The route therefore leads to a Baroque chapel with a documented cultural and historical date, connecting the walk with a historic building.
Industry and nature along the second trail
The “Industry and Nature of Chlumčany” educational trail also explores local themes through its information stations. One station is titled “Chlumčany Ceramics – Kaolin – White Gold.” Another is called “Šavlice Chlumčany – Ponds, Forests, Natural Oases.” The station titles themselves show that the six-kilometre route covers both Chlumčany’s industrial connections and its ponds, forests and natural oases.
MotoMuzeum Chlumčany
Those interested in automotive history will find the MotoMuzeum Chlumčany to be a distinct cultural complement to the educational trails. The museum opened in 2011; visitors can currently see 160 motorcycles there. The exhibition includes complete pre-war series of motorcycles by JAWA, ČZ and Praga. It also includes a complete collection of ČZ and ESO motocross special machines.
If you would like to compare more places for your selection, you can also find Louňová, Zinkovy, Kasejovice, Blovice, Žákava, Nekvasovy, Štěnovice and Kotovice.
