Tojice: Chapel, Memorial Sites and Landscapes

The “1886 Cross” stands on a hill above Tojice, where two field paths meet. According to statements by contemporary witnesses from the village, the cross commemorates a fatal accident involving a horse-drawn cart loaded with hay. Remembrance of the First World War

The memorial to those who fell in the First World War in Tojice was erected around 1920 and commemorates 10 citizens of Tojice. Its upper section bears a white-marble Czechoslovak coat of arms, the inscription “28. říjen,” and photographs of fallen soldiers. The coat of arms, lettering, and photographs give the memorial a multifaceted design and connect the historical occasion with personal memorial elements. Together with the “1886 Cross,” it forms a second focal point of the village’s history, while the chapel provides a distinct architectural accent.
