Litohlavy can be discovered through several clearly distinct experiences: the Baroque chapel on Vršíček, information about nature and history along the Kokotské rybníky educational trail, and designated cycling routes. These are complemented by traditional events and a preserved rural ensemble. For planning your trip, the village thus combines cultural history, landscapes and active excursions, without requiring all the experiences to follow the same itinerary.

Chapel, ascent and local history

South of Litohlavy, the Baroque Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary stands on Vršíček. It was built between 1744 and 1747 in thanksgiving for Rokycany having been spared a plague epidemic. From the east, there are two different ways to reach it: you can access the chapel via a serpentine path laid out in 1890 or by a stone staircase. The main staircase has 77 steps, followed by an older straight stone staircase with a further 7 steps. The route to the chapel is therefore not only a destination in itself but also a clearly tangible part of the visit.

The local history also includes rural farmstead No. 11. It comprises a granary, an enclosure wall with a gate and a wicket, a barn and farm buildings. The complex presents a different historical aspect of Litohlavy than the chapel: the focus here is not a single sacred building but the structure of an agricultural farmstead.

Traditions throughout the year

The chapel is also associated with the village’s traditional cultural and social events. Concerts at the chapel are among these events. The Vršíčková pouť in Litohlavy takes place on the first Sunday in July. Another fixed date is the traditional event “Rozloučení s prázdninami,” held once a year in August at the public venue “Lomeček” and at the TJ Litohlavy z.s. sports complex. Those planning their stay for such a date can combine their visit to the village with an explicitly traditional part of the local events calendar.

Wooded Vršíček and educational trail

Vršíček is a wooded hill, 441 metres high, in the territory of Litohlavy. The Kokotské rybníky educational trail offers a different perspective on the surrounding area. The circular route is 9 kilometres long and includes 11 stations with information boards about the nature and history of the area around the ponds. It runs between Smědčice and Litohlavy northeast of Plzeň and can be accessed on foot or by bicycle.

In the vicinity of Litohlavy, the educational trail begins and ends at the swimming pool in Nová Huť near Dýšina. Parking spaces are available there.

Cycling routes with different itineraries

There is more than one documented route. One cycling tour described by KČT leads from Rokycany railway station via Litohlavy towards Smědčice and the Kokotské rybníky ponds. Cycling route No. 2153 also passes through the northern part of Litohlavy to Smědčice. On the cycling tour described by KČT, Litohlavy is designated as a refreshment stop. This designation describes its classification within the route; it makes no further statement about a specific offering on site.
