Lhůta

Lhůta combines gently rolling landscapes with forests, agricultural land and a remarkable local history. Located between the Sutice woodland area with Spálený vrch and the Lhůtský potok stream, the municipality brings together nature, regional traditions and traces of the past. Forests, open spaces, the stream and the surrounding elevations shape the character of the area.

Landscape between Forest and Stream

Lhůta lies in gently rolling terrain and is predominantly surrounded by forests and agricultural land. Forests and open areas used for agriculture alternate and define the immediate surroundings.

The landscape also includes the Kozelské polesí woodland area and Mount Maršál, which reaches an elevation of 562 m. Together with Sutice and Spálený vrch, they form distinctive landscape areas around the municipality. The Lhůtský potok stream adds a clearly identifiable watercourse to this setting.

Lhůta is also associated with Kornatický potok Nature Park and the PP Sedlecká rokle protected area.

Local History and Preserved Traces

The municipality was first mentioned in writing in 1366; at that time, the settlement was called Lhota. The name Lhota derives from the historical term lhóta or lehota. It referred to a period during which the inhabitants of newly founded settlements were exempt from certain obligations to the authorities. The variants lhóta and lehota therefore denote the same historical arrangement for newly founded settlements.

The municipality's official name was changed to “Lhůta” in 1924. The history of the name thus extends from the medieval designation Lhota to the present-day form Lhůta. A period of 558 years, or more than five centuries, lies between the first written mention in 1366 and the official name change in 1924. One notable architectural remnant is Kovárna Hvížďalka. It is considered one of the few surviving examples of a farrier's forge with a representative residential building. The ensemble thus preserves a tangible testimony to the area's former architecture and working life.

Cycle Path and Local Events

For an active day out, cycle path 2154 runs from Lhůta to Mirošov and is 16 km long. The route connects the two places along a clearly defined course and provides a dedicated point of interest for cycling.

Since 2001, Lhůta's volunteer firefighters have organized the annual Tříkrálový vejšlap hike to Mount Maršál.

Hostinec Pod Maršálem regularly hosts social and entertainment events. Beer, other drinks and refreshments are available there. Thus, in addition to woodland areas, elevations and the cycle path, a local meeting place and a tradition of events are also part of the picture of Lhůta.
