Culture and Townscapes in Kozojedy

Kozojedy combines local history with a cycling route running directly through the village. For travelers who want to plan their stay not only around accommodation but also around specific discoveries, the village reveals itself both through its buildings and through community-oriented events.

The Church of St. Nicholas has been protected as a historic monument since May 3, 1958. This date is part of the building’s history and makes the church a permanent part of Kozojedy’s cultural identity. Those interested in historic places and the visible traces of regional memory will find a specific reason here to consider Kozojedy as a travel destination. The church and the bell tower represent two different types of architecture: in Kozojedy stands the protected church building, while in Borek there is the low wooden structure on a stone base.

A distinctive architectural addition is the protected bell tower, “zvonice,” in Kozojedy-Borek. It is a low, square wooden structure on a stone base. The present bell tower is a copy of the original bell tower made in the early 1990s. This distinction between the original building and the copy made later is precisely one of the remarkable details of the townscape. For culturally focused travel planning, Borek therefore offers its own theme alongside the Church of St. Nicholas.

The memorial to those who fell in the First World War also makes a clear statement. It bears the names of the fallen from Kozojedy and Borek and is designed as an approximately 4-meter-high modern sandstone sculpture depicting a woman and a child. In terms of its meaning, the memorial connects the two parts of the village through the names of those honored and makes local history visible in sculptural form. The names identify both parts of the village, while the woman and child translate the commemoration into a figurative scene.

Cycling and Regional Traditions

The Střela cycling route runs directly through Kozojedy, offering an opportunity to explore the village by bicycle.

The local events calendar also includes Staročeské máje 2025. These included a May procession through Bohy, Buček, Lednice, and Kozojedy, as well as an evening May celebration. On February 8, 2025, Kozojedy also hosted the Kozojedský masopust with a masked procession. Both details refer to events in 2025 and should therefore be understood as documented examples of local traditions, not as an indication of a future date. The two celebrations in 2025 differed in their format: the máje passed through four villages and included an evening celebration, while the Masopust featured a masked procession in Kozojedy.
