Zbůch – Chapels, Mining History and Disc Golf
Zbůch combines sacred architectural history, the memory of mining and active outdoor experiences. Those who want to combine a trip with cultural discoveries and active hours will find several different ways to experience the town here: historic chapels, an engaging mining exhibition, disc golf in the forest park and a facility for cyclists. This makes it possible to tailor your stay to your own interests without reducing Zbůch to a single excursion destination.
Chapels and Preserved Local History
In the center of Zbůch stands the Chapel of Our Lady, a late Baroque building that was probably constructed before 1850. In August 2003, it was declared a cultural monument. The chapel is also relevant to local life today: Services are held there every Saturday at 1:30 p.m. throughout the year. Those who want to discover Zbůch through a peaceful cultural activity will therefore encounter not only historic architecture here, but also a sacred place that continues to be used.
Another historical perspective is offered by the Chapel of Saint Anne in Červený Újezd. The village was merged with Zbůch in 1960. The chapel is late Baroque and probably dates from the first half of the 19th century. This chapel, too, was declared a cultural monument in August 2003, just like the Chapel of Our Lady. Červený Újezd has also preserved the medieval layout of its village square to this day. Together, the chapel and the village square provide insight into older settlement structures that differ from the individual architectural history of the Chapel of Our Lady.
Mining History to See and Enter
The Hornické muzeum in Zbůch is dedicated to the area’s industrial past. The exhibition comprises around 150 objects, most of which were donated by miners and people from the surrounding area. In 2021, it was expanded to include an outdoor exhibition. There, you can enter a model mine gallery: It is a true-to-the-original replica of a coal mine and the miners’ workplace. For families, this section offers a tangible introduction to a world of work that can be understood not only through display panels but also through a walk-through representation.
Disc Golf and Bicycle Services Outdoors
On May 6, 2024, Zbůch’s six-hole disc golf course was officially opened. It is located in the forest park behind the V cihelně sports complex and is freely accessible to the public. Discs can be borrowed at the disc golf course, so you can discover this activity without your own equipment. Another practical facility for active days is the “V Cihelně” Cyklopoint near the popular V Cihelně restaurant. It offers a bicycle charging station, bicycle tools and a map.
