Hiking on Two Special Nature Trails

The Naučná stezka Horní Bříza educational trail is a 17-kilometre circular route in the area around Horní Bříza and includes ten stops. At this length, it is considerably more than a short walk. The stops structure the tour and make the route an outing in its own right for anyone who wants to combine an extended exploration with a variety of topics.

The Přírodovědná stezka Horní Bříza nature trail is a separate offering that complements it in terms of content. It includes eight information boards in Horní Bříza and the surrounding area. In an entertaining way, the trail provides knowledge about the surrounding nature and basic laws of nature.

Oprámy: Kaolin Quarries and Protected Amphibians

One of Horní Bříza’s notable features is the Oprámy. These are disused kaolin quarries. Protected amphibian species occur in the Oprámy and the surrounding area, including the agile frog, the common toad, the smooth newt and the alpine newt. The Oprámy are therefore not only evidence of kaolin mining but are also associated with remarkable wildlife.

For orientation on site, one clear restriction is important: entering the quarry’s mining area is prohibited under threat of a penalty. The Oprámy are also not used for swimming. Anyone visiting Horní Bříza should take this distinction into account when planning their day.

A Regular Event in June

Another way to get to know Horní Bříza is the Keramický a farmářský trh. The regularly held market takes place on the last Sunday in June every year.
