Kralovice – Culture, Museum and Outdoor Pool for Families
Kralovice in the Czech Republic offers several clearly distinct points of interest for a trip: historic church architecture, the cultural destination of Mariánská Týnice, regional history at the museum and a municipal outdoor pool with facilities for children. This allows you to plan your stay around different interests, without culture and a relaxing break by the water having to share the same character.
Mariánská Týnice: Pilgrimage History and Regional Culture
Mariánská Týnice is a former pilgrimage site and former provostry of the Cistercian monastery in Plasy. The monastery acquired it in 1230 from its then owner, Roman z Týnce. The pilgrimage complex was built according to plans by Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel. One particularly distinctive detail is the Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary: its floor plan has the shape of an isosceles so-called Greek cross.
The site's current protected status is also part of its history. Mariánská Týnice has been protected as a cultural monument since 1964 and was declared a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic in 2018. Permanent exhibitions at the Museum and Gallery of the North Plzeň Region provide information about the historical development of this region. Families can also follow the interactive children's trail “Muzeem všemi smysly”. This makes it possible to combine a museum visit with the children's trail, while the permanent exhibitions offer a broader view of regional history.
Kralovice and the Parish Church of Saints Peter and Paul
In Kralovice itself, the parish church of Saints Peter and Paul is the focus of a separate historical trail. It is first mentioned in records from the mid-13th century. Between 1575 and 1581, it was rebuilt by Florian Gryspek. The Gryspek family crypt is located beneath the side chapel.
The church is also notable for its visible architectural details. The exterior masonry of its nave consists of dark red, unplastered bricks. At the west entrance, it has a Renaissance portal. Anyone paying attention to individual architectural features during a stay in Kralovice will therefore find more here than a general historical date: the construction period, family history, materials and portal design belong to different aspects of the same church.
Outdoor Pool and Excursion Options with Children
For a break involving water, the Kralovice Municipal Outdoor Pool offers a 17 × 25 metre pool. Facilities include a water slide, a water jet and a mushroom-shaped water sprinkler. There is also a children's paddling pool with a slide. These separate areas make the outdoor pool an independent option alongside the cultural attractions and give families a specific choice between the larger pool and the paddling area.
If you would like to plan another activity, a bus runs from Kralovice to Vysoká Libyně. The educational trail “Cesta slovanských bohů” starts there. This connection thus names both a starting point and the name of the educational trail, without requiring you to limit your plans to sightseeing in the town itself.
