Vlčtejn is defined by its small, typical Gothic castle ruin dating from the time of Charles IV and the Buližník rock on which the castle was built. There are also cultural events, climbing routes and cycling options. During your stay, you can focus on the history of the castle and the town, climbing or cycling.

Castle Ruins, Local History and Culture

The castle palace is closed because of its poor technical condition. Take this access restriction into account when planning and check access again before your trip. One historical connection is the treaty known as the Treaty of Vlčtejn, which was concluded in Vlčtejn on 11 June. This specific date adds an event from local history to the story of the castle’s construction.

For more than 30 years, the natural area around the castle ruin has been used for various music and cultural events. If an event is an important reason for your trip, plan around its date and check when it is taking place.

Buližník Rock: Climbing

There are several climbing routes of varying difficulty on Buližník, the rock on which the castle was built. The Vlčtejn climbing area is described as a compact Buližník rock formation about 17 m high, with around 40 routes; most run up a vertical wall. This gives you an idea of the different characteristics of the routes without suggesting they are all alike. Route conditions can change; check them before climbing.

Cycling: Circular Route or Route 2143?

The “Blovickem pěšky i na kole” nature trail is a 22 km circular route with seven stops and information boards. Its focus is the protection of nature and the landscape. Cycling route 2143 takes a different course: it runs from Vlčtejn via Chlum to Střížovice. The section leading away from Vlčtejn follows a pleasant descent and offers beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. This gives you two different options: a circular route with stops and a focus on nature, or a route with a specified sequence of places and a scenic section. Local route conditions can change; check them before setting off.

When looking for a hotel for your trip to Vlčtejn, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on: local history, a cultural event, climbing routes on Buližník, or a circular route with a nature and landscape theme. If you are travelling with others, agree on what everyone is interested in.
