Chodská Lhota – History, Nature and Trails

Chodská Lhota combines a visible village history with a natural setting that can be explored on foot and by bicycle. A memorial on the village square commemorates the victims of the First World War. At the same time, marked trails lead through the village and onward into the countryside. Chodská Lhota therefore offers various ways to enjoy a stay combining culture, nature observation and active excursions.

History and Village Character

Chodská Lhota is one of the eleven oldest Chod villages listed in a document issued by King John of Luxembourg on 16 March 1325. The village’s long history is also reflected in individual events: it took part in the well-known uprising that was suppressed in 1693. Those interested in regional history will therefore find not just a single memorial site here, but several historical layers that characterize the village.

One particularly distinctive building is the Chapel of St. Wenceslas in the middle of the village square. It stands in a location that is important to the character of the village and was built in the pseudo-Gothic style at the end of the 19th century. Narrow, tall windows and the pointed-arch entrance portal define its appearance. Together with the memorial to the victims of the First World War, the chapel forms a concentrated cultural focal point in the village.

Německá hora Natural Area

The Německá hora natural monument is located within the municipality of Chodská Lhota. Německá hora is an area of national importance with populations of specially protected plant and animal species, including prasetník lysý. Visitors can therefore focus on a specific natural area that differs from the village square’s historical sites and complements the stay with opportunities for nature observation.

Hiking and Cycling

The surroundings of Chodská Lhota can be explored along several signposted trails. A marked hiking trail leads from Chodská Lhota via Štefle through deep forests towards Orlovice. Marked hiking trail no. 1 (0225) is 31.5 km long and runs through Chodská Lhota between Nová Ves and Štefle.

For cycling, Route No. 2051 leads from Hluboká via Road III/1923 through the centre of Chodská Lhota and on to Orlovice. Paved paths also make the surrounding area accessible for activities including family walks. Depending on the type of excursion you prefer, you can therefore choose between a longer hiking route, a trail through deep forests, a cycling tour through the village centre and a walk along paved paths.
