Baldov on foot and by bike

The sculpture trail on Baldov was created in 2013 as part of the Tusta Sculpta sculptors’ symposium. It begins behind Domažlice in the direction of Luženičky and follows a green-marked hiking trail. The connection between landscape and art is thus directly linked to the route: the sculptures do not stand as isolated stations without any connection, but form part of a trail leading from Domažlice towards Luženičky.

For a cycling trip, the 15-kilometre Baldov circular route is a good choice. It reaches the signpost above Luženičky and connects there to cycle route No. 3 towards Domažlice. The circular route runs through hilly terrain and partly along forest tracks. The monument to the Hussite victory also stands on Baldovské návrší, in the cadastral area of the municipality of Luženičky. It can be reached from there via a yellow-marked hiking trail or an access road. Together with the Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity located there, the monument and chapel offer a semicircular view.

Chapels and history on Baldovské návrší

The chapel on Baldovské návrší is a Baroque hexagonal building dedicated to the Most Holy Trinity and built in the 18th century. Its form and dedication give the viewpoint a distinctly cultural character. At the same time, the site commemorates an event from 1431: a clash between Hussites and Crusaders took place on Baldovské návrší. The monument to the Hussite victory and the chapel therefore represent two different aspects of the same place—the memory of a historical event and the sacred architecture of the 18th century.

Luženičky itself also contains historical points of interest. Next to the Chapel of Saint Anthony stands a memorial cross from 1939. It is an independent memorial in the immediate vicinity of the chapel, not part of the Baroque chapel on Baldovské návrší.

Historic farmsteads in the village

The architectural character of Luženičky also includes two specifically identified properties. Farmstead No. 7 is considered a valuable building. Its notable features include a gate with a lintel and a multi-storey residential building dated 1930. At Farmstead No. 5, one of the oldest properties in the municipality, an old wooden dovecote has been preserved. Details like these shift the focus away from individual major attractions and towards the buildings through which local history can be read in the villagescape.
