Verměřovice – River Landscape, Culture and Cycling Routes

Verměřovice combines the river landscape of the Tichá Orlice with small, clearly defined cultural monuments and two documented cycling connections. This makes it possible to discover the village in different ways: you can focus on nature and local history or choose Verměřovice as the starting point for a cycling tour.

River Landscape and Protected Nature

The Tichá Orlice flows through Verměřovice and serves as a biocorridor. The Orlice Nature Park was established along the river in 1996. The river course is therefore one of the defining geographical features of the village, without this automatically implying specific services or developed paths.

The Sutice Nature Reserve is a distinct natural area. It contains limestone-loving beech forests with lady's slipper (Cypripedium calceolus). The access situation is important for planning your outing: neither marked tourist trails nor an educational trail lead to the nature reserve. Sutice should therefore primarily be regarded as a clearly designated protected area with remarkable forest and plant life, not as a freely accessible excursion destination with a signposted visitor route.

Bridge and Church as Local History

In the upper part of Verměřovice stands a stone bridge designated as a technical monument dating from 1895, which crosses the Tichá Orlice. Its dimensions are precisely documented: the bridge is 29 metres long and 4 metres wide. It thus offers a tangible piece of local technological history and complements the natural character created by the river with a visible structure.

Another historical point of reference is the Church of St John the Baptist. It was built in 1901 on the site of an 18th-century chapel. Two Cycling Routes with Different Connections

Cycling Route No. 4361 runs through Verměřovice. It leads from Letohrad via Jablonné nad Orlicí, Těchonín, Lichkov and Králíky to Dolní Morava. The route thus places Verměřovice within a longer connection linking several towns and landscape areas.

Cycling Route No. 4253 also runs through Verměřovice and connects Čenkovice, Bystřec, Petrovice, Dolní Čermná, Horní Čermná, Výprachtice, Horní Heřmanice and Valteřice. When choosing accommodation, these two routes can reflect different interests: one orientation follows a connection from Letohrad to Dolní Morava, while the other opens up a series of places between Čenkovice and Valteřice. No further characteristics of the routes are automatically established by this.

Rail Connection in Verměřovice

Verměřovice also has a railway stop on ČD Line 024 between Ústí nad Orlicí and Hanušovice. This specific railway connection is part of the local orientation, without making any assumptions about timetables, connections or journey times.
