Cycling Routes, Festivals and Sacred Culture in Luková

In spring, Lukovský mandel takes center stage: This regularly held cycling and hiking excursion follows walking and cycling routes through the countryside and small villages in the area around Luková. There are also historic churches, pilgrimages, concerts and events in the Květná district. Cycling and Hiking Around Luková

For a specific connection in the surrounding area, there is the 2.71 km-long Lanškroun–Luková cycle path. It connects Lanškroun with the municipality of Luková, begins at the town limits of Lanškroun and ends at the railway underpass structure in Luková. The cycle path was completed and opened for use on January 3. Cycle Route No. 4222, “Damníkov – Lanškroun – through the valley of the Moravská Sázava to Buková hora,” also passes through Luková. Those orienting themselves by long-distance routes will also find Luková on Via Czechia, the so-called Českomoravská Route.

The character of the events extends beyond cycling. Motosraz Luková is an annual motorcycle gathering featuring bands, performances, competitions, food and drinks. In the Květná district, cold-blooded draft horse competitions are regularly held under the name Chladnokrevníci Květná. Motorcycles are the focus of Motosraz, while the competitions in Květná center on cold-blooded draft horses.

Church of St. Margaret and Chapel of St. Lawrence

The Church of St. Margaret is an important historical landmark in Luková. Construction began in 1882, and the church was completed and consecrated in 1885. Pilgrimage Masses are held in the church every year. Organ and Advent concerts are also held there. The church thus combines architectural history, religious tradition and a recurring cultural program, without these aspects being limited to a single event date.

Another sacred site is located in the Květná district: The Chapel of St. Lawrence was commissioned in 1863 and consecrated on May 5, 1864. Masses are regularly celebrated in the chapel. The Mass on the second Sunday in August in honor of St. Lawrence is associated with the Svatovavřinecká pouť. Of art-historical interest is the Rococo-period high altar with a mensa in the form of a tomb. In addition to its local events, Květná therefore also offers a specific detail of sacred furnishings.

Pilgrimages and Stone Monuments

Lukovská pouť is a traditional summer pilgrimage in Luková and takes place during the school holidays. Together with Svatovavřinecká pouť, it forms an annual cycle in which religious festivals are associated with different locations in the municipality and its district. The sacred buildings in the territory of Luková and Květná include a total of 17 stone crosses, monuments, statues and wayside shrines. This variety complements the two churches and the chapel with smaller stone monuments throughout the area.
