České Heřmanice combines a rural landscape shaped by ponds with distinctive church architecture, nature trails and traditional events. The most important landmark is the Church of St. James the Elder; at the same time, paths lead out into landscapes and to historic traces that complement the character of the place.

St. James the Elder and Historic Monuments

The Church of St. James the Elder is at the heart of the cultural experience in České Heřmanice. A late Gothic portal dating from 1547 has been preserved in the northern wall of the presbytery. The front part of the nave is extended by two Baroque side chapels. There is also a Gothic portal to the sacristy in the left wall of the presbytery.

The church’s present appearance was also shaped by a later reconstruction: between 1720 and 1733, it was rebuilt in the Baroque style. This makes it possible to trace the combination of late Gothic and Baroque elements in a single building. The historic appearance of the village also includes the granary, which is considered one of the historically significant monuments in České Heřmanice.

Cycling Route, Nature Trail and Landscape

A marked cycling route makes it possible to explore the rural landscape of České Heřmanice, shaped by ponds. It offers a distinct perspective on the village and its surroundings, while the Borová nature trail focuses more on observing nature and informative stations.

The Borová nature trail begins at a former inn on a country road. From there, it passes an orchard and continues into the Labičské údolí valley. Along the way are information boards, an insect hotel, a learning table and stations for identifying trees. The route thus combines movement through the landscape with specific points of connection for discovering nature and the village. The nature trail also leads to two historic underground ice cellars.

The Fit Trail offers another short activity. A tourist rest area is located at its end. When choosing accommodation, the desired way of spending the day is therefore a useful starting point: the church and granary favour a focus on cultural history, the cycling route is suited to trips through the pond landscape, and Borová to a walk combining nature and educational elements.

Traditions with Regional Character

Events are also part of the character of České Heřmanice. The Masopust masquerade procession took place for the eighth time in 2025. At the Masopust celebration on 15 February 2025, a pig slaughter feast was prepared by the volunteer firefighters from České Heřmanice. The masquerade procession ends with the symbolic burial of the double bass. Masopust with a pig slaughter feast is one of the traditional events in České Heřmanice.

Another event that has already become a tradition is the Old Bohemian pilgrimage fair. At the 2026 fair, handicrafts and good food were on offer. Those interested in local customs and the social character of a place will find a different way of engaging with it here than by visiting the church or touring the landscape.
