Chapel, Column and Local History

A prominent landmark is the Chapel of the Holy Trinity. It was completed in 1863 and consecrated on 29 September 1867. The chapel is also associated with the choir “KAMÍNCI”, which regularly performs a Christmas carol programme there. The choir also sings various songs during Kameničná’s June procession. Thus, the local sacred building brings together architectural history and event traditions that have been passed down to the present day, without this implying any specific visitor or opening offer.

Another cultural and historical landmark is the stone Marian Column. It is dated to 1681 and stands in a well-maintained park behind the school. The cemetery in Kameničná was consecrated on 23 June 1878. Historically, the town was also part of various domains: Kameničná was formerly owned by the Lords of Litice; in 1809, it belonged to the Žamberk domain, whose seat was Žamberk.

Paths Through Landscape and History

Several distinct landscape and historical traces have been documented to help visitors orient themselves in the surrounding area. A marked hiking trail runs through the eastern part of the municipality from Žamberk via Polsko, Houkov and Velká Suchá to Rokytnice. The so-called Královská cesta also leads through the Suchá forest. At the site called “Na hradě” in Suchá, the remains of the moat of a 13th-century castle have been preserved. Another historical landmark is the Plague Column. It stands at a place where inhabitants who died during a plague epidemic are buried.

Kameničná borders the Orlické hory Protected Landscape Area; the boundary of this protected area runs through neighbouring Pěčín. During the summer months, Kameničná offers opportunities for hiking and cycling through the varied landscapes of the Orlické Mountains.

The road layout also clearly describes the town’s location. Road No. 310 leads from Helvíkovice to Kameničná and divides behind the town into several directions: towards Říčky v Orlických horách and Bartošovice v Orlických horách via Pěčín and Rokytnice, and towards Rychnov nad Kněžnou via Slatina nad Zdobnicí and Javornice.

Local Character and Events

The local character also includes a range of regional products: Lenka Skalická from Kameničná near Žamberk offers blossom honey, creamed honey, forest honey, candles made from wax foundation, poured candles and propolis. According to local legend, the tears of an enchanted princess spring from the source below the castle. To this day, the spring bears the name “U princezny”.

Events include the traditional Kameňák Motosraz, organised by SPZ z.s. on the sports grounds behind the Veverkový family’s property. The 8th Kameňák Motosraz also took place in Kameničná near Žamberk.
