Svésedlice: a Haná village with a history of its own

Svésedlice displays the characteristic settlement structure of the Haná region and the form of a circular village. The village is first mentioned in writing in 1370. For travelers who appreciate historical context and a village landscape shaped over time, its appeal therefore lies not only in a single monument. A visit allows the spatial arrangement and history to be considered together.

The Chapel of Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Thomas was built in 1902 on the site of an earlier wooden bell tower. The village’s political history also reaches far back: from 1389 until the abolition of serfdom in 1848, Svésedlice was owned by the Olomouc Chapter. In 1931, Ludmila Zatloukalová-Coufalová became the first woman in Moravia to head a municipality. The historical milestones thus range from ecclesiastical architectural history and former ownership arrangements to municipal development in the 20th century.

Village green, monument and public space

The historically valuable center of Svésedlice, situated around the village green, is regarded as a spatially and functionally stabilized part of the built-up area. The central public space, with its chapel, the cross of Saint Thomas and Saint Francis, and high-quality park landscaping, is intended to be protected. In front of the former school stands the reconciliation cross dating from 1547; it is considered the oldest monument in Svésedlice. This concentrated sequence of village green, religious building and monument makes the village center a clear focus for a stay oriented toward cultural history. The village green thus connects the religious building, greenery and monuments into a cohesive public space.

Waterways and landscape around the village

The landscape of Svésedlice can be described particularly well through its waterways. The Beroňka watercourse runs through the built-up area, while the Týnečka stream flows through the southern part of the municipality. A reservoir lies on the Beroňka north of the built-up area. South of the village, below the built-up area, there is a pond on the Týnečka. Travelers who wish to consider open landscapes and connections to the water alongside history in their planning will find two differently oriented areas here: the northern area along the Beroňka and the southern part along the Týnečka.

Sports, events and local traditions

Sports facilities in Svésedlice include a football pitch and a nohejbal court. Nohejbal is a Czech ball sport in which a net and the foot are used. In addition, the first memorial event dedicated to hiking and cycling was held in Svésedlice. It is named “Memoriál Ludmily Zatloukalové – Coufalové” and was intended to take place annually in the future. Another local specialty in the municipal cultural program is the event “Zelený čtvrtek – makrely”. Svésedlice also has a local restaurant for refreshments.
