Olbramice between local history and rural character

Olbramice invites you to experience a small village not merely as a starting point, but as a destination in its own right. The preserved historic linear settlement structure, with its village green and buildings lining the road, shapes the character of the village. Traditional rural settlement includes farmsteads, detached and terraced houses, as well as gardens and orchards. The combination of straight road-side development, village green, and rural house forms shapes the villagescape as a whole. When exploring the area, therefore, it is not just an individual building that matters, but also its village context. The history dates back at least to 1368: that year, the village “Olbramicz” was first mentioned in a Latin entry in the land registers of the Olomouc jurisdiction.

Chapel of Saint Vitus

An important cultural reference point is the Chapel of Saint Vitus. It was completed in 1937 and extensively reconstructed in 2002; a sacristy was added during this reconstruction. Mass is currently celebrated in the chapel once a month. This brings architectural history and contemporary religious life together directly in this place – a special aspect for visitors who would also like to discover the region’s ecclesiastical history during their stay.

Cultural Monuments in the Village and Along the Roads

Several smaller monuments add to the character of Olbramice. At the eastern end of the village, on the road to Náměšť na Hané, stands a column with a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. It is registered as an immovable cultural monument. The free-standing column is a folk-style stone work from the mid-19th century and bears a relief of Saint Florian.

The village green also brings together several noteworthy details: the cross in front of the bell tower is registered as an immovable cultural monument, while the bell tower itself is listed as a monument of local significance. Further evidence can be found at the edge of the village and outside its immediate centre: the wayside shrine at the forest edge in the direction of Náměšť na Hané and the wooden cross on the road to Bohuslavice are monuments of local significance. In addition, there is the stone cross in the cemetery. The monuments are distributed across the village green, the outskirts, the roads, and the cemetery. Exploring the area thus takes in different parts of the village, from the central green to the smaller features at its edges.

Natural Areas in the Surrounding Region

Planning excursions also involves taking into account the surroundings outside the municipality. To the east of the municipality, the Terezské údolí Nature Park lies nearby; to the southeast is Regional Biocentre No. 267 Terezské údolí. These two landscape features complement the village’s cultural and historical impressions with a natural setting.
