Střeň – Floodplain Forests, Culture and Cycling Route
Střeň amid Floodplain Forests, History and Cycling Routes
If you are looking for a place where protected landscapes, local history and cycling come together, Střeň offers several specific points of interest. The municipality lies at the heart of the largest complex of floodplain forests in the Litovelské Pomoraví Protected Landscape Area. At the same time, Střeň is the only municipality within this protected landscape area.
Landscape in the Litovelské Pomoraví Protected Landscape Area
Protection zones II and IV of the Litovelské Pomoraví Protected Landscape Area are located in the cadastral territory of Střeň. The area’s earlier landscape history can also be traced in the appearance of the village: The Morávka river branch once flowed directly through Střeň. The landscape can therefore be viewed in two periods: Protection zones II and IV classify the present-day natural area within the cadastral territory, while the former course of the Morávka marks a historical change in the river landscape. This gives visitors two different ways of approaching the area: the floodplain forests and protected landscape represent nature, while the former river branch represents the development and history of the village.
Chapel, Cross and Former Railway Station Building
The Chapel of St. George is the oldest surviving monument in Střeň and was built in 1718. It was reconstructed and reconsecrated in 1992. The chapel thus combines considerable age with a later reconsecration: Several centuries of local history lie between its construction in 1718 and its reconsecration in 1992. The cross adds a different historical emphasis, as its construction is connected with a specific event in the village. Both sites lead to different historical points of interest in the village. Another historical landmark stands in the centre of the village: The “Kříž s Kristem” cross was erected in 1867 in gratitude for the village having been spared from cholera. The three historical sites also offer different perspectives: The chapel represents ecclesiastical history, the cross a specific event in the village, and the railway station building the history of rail transport.
The former railway station building in Střeň is also part of the architectural heritage. It was designed in the Alpine style and opened on 1 October 1911. The chapel, the cross and the historic railway station building each provide a different point of interest and give you several specific destinations for a walk around the village, without reducing Střeň to a single monument.
Cycling on the Moravská stezka
The Moravská stezka cycling route passes through Střeň. On the section between Lhota nad Moravou and Střeň, cyclists cross the Morava over a bridge before reaching the village. The Hrobé most bridge is also located between Střeň and Lhota. The O bílech slópku bridge lies in the direction of Štěpánov. These three bridge connections highlight different directions in the surrounding area: Before Střeň, the Morava crossing lies on the section from Lhota nad Moravou, Hrobé most is between Střeň and Lhota, and O bílech slópku is in the direction of Štěpánov.
Recreation Area with Play and Sports Facilities
The recreation area in Střeň has a children’s playground. There are also sand courts for tennis or volleyball. The two facilities cater to different activities: The playground is intended for children, while the sand courts are for tennis or volleyball. For families planning a stay with a range of activities in addition to nature, history or a cycling tour, these facilities are a clear part of the local orientation.
