Nature Experiences with Different Facets

The Makču Pikču Arboretum lies between the municipality of Paseka and the medieval Sovinec Castle. Rock gardens, ponds with ornamental fish, an artificial canyon and numerous plants from around the world characterise this special place. Anyone looking for a varied nature excursion in Paseka will find more here than an ordinary green space.

At the edge of Paseka, the Pasecké Waterfalls lie where the Hornomoravský úval transitions into the deeply incised Pasecký žleb. The Teplička stream runs over several rock ledges; the waterfall has a total height of around five metres. An observation pavilion stands directly above the rapids. This means that the waterfall area can be experienced not only as a landscape feature, but also as a specific landmark for exploring Paseka.

Below the Paseka sanatorium, there is also an extensive landscape park with notable tree species. The landscape park and the chapel below the sanatorium are open to everyone at all times and are used for walking and recreation.

Hiking, Water and Summer in Paseka

A 17 km official hiking trail leads from Šternberk via Řídeč and Paseka to Karlov and Sovinec Castle. The route thus connects Paseka with several stops and serves as a point of reference for anyone wishing to combine their stay with a longer hike.

For a summer activity, Paseka’s natural swimming biotope is available; the associated snack bar is also open during the summer season. Paseka Skatepark is a reinforced-concrete facility covering approximately 600 m², with ramps, stairs, a shallow bowl, as well as boxes and rails. The natural swimming area and skatepark offer different kinds of activities, expanding the options for a stay that is not limited to sightseeing.

Chapels, a Church and Living Tradition

The Povýšení sv. Kříže Chapel in Paseka is a modern block construction for sacred purposes, built between 1914 and 1917. Visitors can visit the forest chapel in Paseka independently; a key can be borrowed in the eighth department. Since the previous year, Mass has regularly been celebrated there on 14 September, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

The present parish church of sv. Kunhuta also has a historical connection: the oldest part is the core of its prismatic tower and dates from the Late Gothic period. The range in Paseka therefore extends from a modern religious building and a living religious tradition to a medieval architectural element.
