Landscape between Haná and Záhoří

Želatovice lies in a gently rolling landscape, in a depression beneath the slopes of the surrounding local hills. At the same time, the village lies at the transition between Haná and Záhoří. If you would like to combine the natural surroundings with village history, you will find a clear thematic framework here: the landscape stands alongside chapels, monuments, and crosses that provide the village with concrete historical points of reference. This creates a varied discovery experience for families, bringing together different interests without reducing Želatovice to a single theme.

History that remains visible in the village

The first written mention of Želatovice dates from 1282 and appears in a charter of Hradisko Monastery near Olomouc. This early date provides a firm chronological starting point for the village’s history. The statue of St. John of Nepomuk, with its date of creation in 1738, marks a later point in time. It is registered under number 610 in the Central List of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic.

On the village square in Želatovice stands a monument to the victims of the First and Second World Wars. A stone cross dating from 1849 stands by House No. 104. In front of House No. 31 there is also a monument to František Běhal. It commemorates a lieutenant in the Czechoslovak fighter force serving abroad, who fell on 11 May 1941 in the Battle of Southern England. The memorial sites are distributed across the village square and two specific house locations: a shared commemoration of the war dead, a cross from 1849, and the remembrance of one individual.

Chapels and commemorative culture

In the middle of the village green west of the Municipal Office building No. 32 stands the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk. It is a masonry building constructed in the Neo-Romanesque style. Since 1993, Mass has been celebrated in this chapel every year on 16 May, the feast of St. John of Nepomuk. Another chapel on the village square dates from 1857. A stone cross by the chapel dates from 1898.

Cycling and a fixed event date

Cycling is also one of the local themes: the “Želatovice–Přerov, boundary of the Želatovice cadastral area” cycle path project was implemented in 2011. This provides a local point of reference if you are planning a trip focused on the landscape and cycling; current conditions on further routes are not described here. As a more recent feature, the project stands alongside the considerably older chapels, crosses, and monuments.

The event calendar includes the International Youth Tournament “Memoriál Ladislava Němce a Viléma Zbořila,” organised by FC Želatovice. The XXXIII edition took place from 5 to 7 June 2026 at the FC Želatovice sports complex. The event adds a contemporary focus to the historical themes and forms part of the sporting life of the local football club.
