Všechovice – Culture, Landscape and Trails in Záhoří

Všechovice lies in the Záhoří landscape. To the south, it is bordered by the Hostýnské vrchy, while the Oderské vrchy can be seen in the distance to the north. The Juhyně River flows through Všechovice. The village thus combines a clearly defined landscape setting with historic buildings, regional traditions and trails for different ways of exploring.

Landscape and Notable Places

One of the distinctive natural features is the European yew, tis červený, in Všechovice. It is a protected memorial tree and has been listed in the central nature conservation register since 2004. The grounds containing the yew are freely accessible. Another open space is the small park that surrounds Všechovice Château on two sides and is also freely accessible. Both places complement the historic sights with quieter stops within the village setting.

Church and Château

The Church of the Holy Trinity stands at the highest point of the municipality. Its presbytery contains two painted windows depicting Saint Teresa and Saint John Sarkander. Všechovice Château leads back to earlier eras: its Renaissance core was built on the site of a fortification dating from 1378 and includes coats of arms and cellars. Around 1770, the château was remodelled in the Baroque style. Several historical layers can therefore be followed in one place without confusing the individual building phases.

Architecture and Bohuslav Fuchs

Another focal point is the cemetery complex in Všechovice. It was built in 1926–1927 to a design by Bohuslav Fuchs, who was from Všechovice, and is considered an exceptional example of early functionalist cemetery architecture in the Czech context. The exhibition about Bohuslav Fuchs is housed in the former school building dating from 1888. It includes archive and contemporary photographs, documents, plans, films and audio recordings. There are also five architectural models with labels in Braille that blind visitors can explore by touch.

Hiking, Cycling and Regional Culture

A blue-marked hiking trail passes through the cadastral area of Všechovice. In the surrounding area, a trail to the ruins of Trmačov Castle branches off from this blue-marked hiking route. Several cycle paths also pass through Všechovice and the surrounding area. Those looking for smaller, unusual discoveries will find Otakar Šatánek’s garden railway in Všechovice, with 150 metres of track running around numerous model buildings.

Regional culture is also part of the village setting. The Šimon association organises Záhorské balls and theatre performances, as well as the Vodění medvěda carnival tradition. The association takes part in traditional pilgrimages and folklore festivals. At the Býškovice–Horní Újezd crossroads stands Boží muka, a Neoclassical structure dating from around 1780.
