Mokré Lazce – Culture, Na skalách and Paleontology

Mokré Lazce combines historical evidence, a thriving local community and a paleontological point of interest.

Church and Local History

One of the notable cultural landmarks is the Church of Saint John the Baptist. It is a protected cultural monument and also points to the area's long history. In the 16th century, the Tvorkovští had a wooden church built in Mokré Lazce and entrusted it to the administration of the Dominican Order.

Another historic building is the small Chapel of Saint Anne. The Baroque chapel dates from 1747 and stands on a road within the built-up area of the village.

Culture, Community and Events

The local church was also the venue for a special cultural program. In 2024, the parish of Mokré Lazce took part in the Night of Churches. The Church of Saint John the Baptist hosted, among other things, an exhibition on the history of the church and parish, a musical performance and an interactive program for children. The program combined historical content with music and an activity for younger visitors.

Another expression of community life is the Na skalách area. The site serves as a meeting place for locals and people from the surrounding area. A maypole is traditionally erected there; official events and informal gatherings are also held there. For orientation, one specific access detail is important: from the village, the Na skalách area is best reached through a pedestrian tunnel.

Sports from Cross-Country Skiing to MTB

Mokré Lazce's sporting profile is shaped by the Lyžařský klub Mokré Lazce. The club engages in competitive and recreational sports in several areas: cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, road cycling, MTB and recreational tourism. The club also organizes road cycling and MTB races. The documented activities thus range from winter sports to cycling and leisure activities, giving the village a distinctly active side alongside its cultural offerings.

Paleontology with a Special Connection to the Area

Mokré Lazce–Lipovice is a paleontological site. Paleontology studies the history of life through fossils. The holotype of a trigonotarbid arachnid was found there. In paleontology, a holotype is the reference specimen of a species. The oldest fossil of a terrestrial animal discovered in the territory of today's Czech Republic was also found at this site. This connection between the place name and geological history makes the site an unusual part of the local profile.

For practical orientation, you should take the current condition of the access route into account: the only access route to the Mokré Lazce–Lipovice paleontological site is heavily covered with debris and very overgrown. The site's historical and scientific value is therefore contrasted by significantly restricted access conditions.
