Vršovice: Forests, Trails and Chapels in the Nízký Jeseník

Vršovice lies on the slopes of the Nízký Jeseník and combines a distinctive landscape with small cultural attractions and marked trails. This gives you various reasons to stay: walks across meadows, tours through the surrounding woodland, cycling trips and visits to religious buildings. The changing elevations between the fields towards Opava and the summit of Šance are particularly interesting.

The elevation of Vršovice ranges from 276 m in the fields towards Opava to 525 m at the summit of Šance. A large part of the cadastral area is covered by forests. Vršovice is also part of the Moravice Nature Park.

Trails for Walks and Cycling Trips

For a shorter outing with a clear destination, the Vršovická pohádková stezka is a suitable choice. The approximately 1.5 km route leads across the meadows of Vršovice, starts at the last houses in the direction of the forester's lodge and ends at the playground above the Vršovice kindergarten. The playground provides a specific endpoint that families can take into account when planning a shared walk.

Anyone wishing to explore Vršovice by bicycle can use marked cycle route No. 6055. It runs through Branka u Opavy, Chvalíkovice, Vršovice and Raduň. The village is also located on the “Údolí Raduňky a okolí” cycling network.

The Raduň–Jakubčovice educational trail also passes through the surrounding area. One of its stops is the forester's lodge near Vršovice, 4 km from Raduň. Three information panels focus on an airplane crash, its crew and the Liberator B-24 aircraft type. The trail therefore combines an experience of the landscape with a specific historical subject, explored along the way using the information provided on site.

Chapels, a Monument and Regional History

One of the prominent cultural sites is the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of the Lord in Vršovice. It was built in 1909 and reconstructed in 2001. During Advent, it is festively illuminated, creating a distinctive visual accent in the village at this time of year.

The wooden Chapel of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows, Panny Marie sedmibolestné, stands on Brdlice and was consecrated in 1949. From there, visitors can enjoy views of the surrounding area and Opava; in clear weather, the Jeseníky Mountains are also visible. Next to this chapel, a monument erected in 1924 commemorates those who fell in the First World War. Another Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows, Panny Marie Bolestné, in Vršovice is listed as an immovable cultural monument. Beneath centuries-old lime trees along the access road from the direction of Chvalíkovice, there is also a Chapel of the Sorrowful Mother of God.

Vršovice offers specific points of interest for this, without requiring the individual experiences to be visited in the same way.
