Historical traces in and around Holasovice

The remains of a stone-built church can be found at the Hradisko site in Holasovice, which V. Šikulová dated to the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries. Historians regard Holasovice as an important settlement of the province of the Holasici. The papal bull of Hadrian IV dated 23 April 1155 is also used to date Holasovice; historians identify “Gradice golensicezke” mentioned in this bull with present-day Holasovice. The bull of 23 April 1155 therefore complements the archaeological evidence at Hradisko with a written trace. The two archaeological findings belong to different periods: at Hradisko, the church is dated to the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries, while at Javorníky the excavated foundations date from the mid-12th century.

Another archaeological trace lies in the garden near Javorníky. The foundations of a stone-built church from the mid-12th century were excavated there. The history of the place is thus evident not only in written records but also in preserved structural remains.

The Muzeum Slezský venkov

The Muzeum Slezský venkov is located in the centre of Holasovice, in a former manor farm on an archaeologically significant site. The museum presents life in a Silesian village up to the mid-20th century, with a focus on the period and traditions of the so-called First Republic. It thus complements the older traces with an insight into rural everyday life and more recent regional history. Its chronological range therefore extends from older archaeological traces to the worlds of life in the first half of the 20th century.

The Muzeum Slezský venkov can be reached by car, train, bicycle, on foot or by boat. Depending on your chosen means of transport, the museum can be incorporated into a car or train journey, a cycling trip, a walk or a boat trip.

Holasovice as a destination for cycling routes

The 33-kilometre cycling route 6160 runs from Razová via Horní Benešov, Sosnová, Brumovice and Skrochovice to Holasovice. The 29-kilometre cycling route 6164 runs from Leskovec nad Moravicí via Staré Heřminovy, Svobodné Heřmanice and Sádek to Holasovice. At 29 kilometres, route 6164 is the shorter of the two; at the same time, the routes differ in their respective starting points and in their courses through several towns and villages. The four-kilometre difference may play a role in planning your trip, as may your preferred starting point.
