Nature and Views Around Heřmánky
The natural attractions include the Jubileum Spring. The Tomčíkův tis, a notable tree in the village, is also a defining feature. A special viewpoint is located at Švédská skála, where a viewing pavilion offers views of Heřmánky and the Oder Valley. Archaeological finds at Švédská skála also attest to the existence of a hillfort. Here, landscape and history come together directly, without requiring you to limit your trip to just one type of experience.
For an active day, the Heřmánkový circuit is a good option. The loop trail leads to the legendary Čertův kámen and starts and ends at Heřmánky ČD railway station. Another hike in the vicinity of Heřmánky leads from a slate quarry to the pilgrimage site of Panna Maria ve Skále in nearby Klokočůvek. Those who prefer to follow a marked route can take a green-marked hiking trail from Heřmánky railway station toward the Oder Valley and onward to Panna Maria ve Skále. Before Klokočov railway station, markings for the Na Čermence natural monument are visible, an important breeding area in an old beech stand.
Cultural and Historical Insights
The village is home to the late Baroque Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, with folk-style furnishings dating from 1783. A still-used cemetery surrounds the church, with a well-maintained gate and cemetery wall. The remaining German gravestones were moved to a lapidarium in the rear part of the cemetery.
Another historical site is the former Fojtství. This cultural monument has a medieval vaulted cellar; the former complex dates from the last third of the 18th century. It is considered a high-quality example of how Neoclassical architectural elements found their way into vernacular architecture. At the same time, the former Fojtství has retained a high degree of authenticity and is one of the few surviving buildings of this type, function and age in the Moravian-Silesian Region. The Tomčíkův tis, with a trunk circumference of 240 cm, stands in the garden of the former Fojtství.
